Hello, folks. My sister has been suffering from eczema for a long time. She scratched a lot and it seems her skin cracked on those places. I am afraid she could get blood poisoning from this. Is this possible to occur? What do you think? I would really appreciate your opinion. Thanks.

Hi, there. I doubt she could get a real blood poisoning. However, cracked skin is an excellent terrain for skin infections. A mild form of infection is called impetigo. Neurodermatitis is also possible. It is a skin becoming thicker on places where one scratches constantly. Has she visited a doctor yet? She can be prescribed some crèmes or ointments that would relieve her itching. If she continues to scratch, I am afraid she could really get blood poisoning. I hope everything will be all right. Bye!
