Hi, I am 23 years old and had genital herpes 2 years ago. Onset of symptoms became chronic for the entire time. Medications did not work. Six months after I contracted the virus, I started to feel lower back pain and shortly thereafter, my leg started to ache. I am very afraid that I will have irreversible damage of nerves.

Hello, assuming you in fact had herpes, you have to know that only symptoms are transient nerve dysfunction, causing transient problems with urination and defecation, numbness or tingling for a few days before an outbreak, and rarely back pain, leg pains or other neurological syndromes. Herpes (Varicella) zoster infects nerve roots but with a proper medication is not necessary to come to irreversible nerve damage.
