I have a Sulfa allergy. I was prescribed Hydrochlorothiziade for a high blood pressure situation....I was fine for 4 years, but recently have been experiencing severe itching, redness and peeling on my face, underarm and backside. Could the drug be causing this problem? I stopped taking the water pills over a month ago, but no relief in symptoms?

Thank you!

I was going to suggest you stop taking the hydrochlorothizide to see if the symptoms disappeared, but I see you already did stop taking it. Since you stopped taking the medication over a month ago, I'm inclined to say your condition is not caused by the hydrochlorothizide.

Are you taking any other medications, perscription or over-the-counter?

Hi there,
I am not sure if this medication is causing your rash problem. You have been using it for long period of time and you had no problem for this long. I don’t think that it could just start all of a sudden now. In my opinion something else is causing your problem. How old are you? Have you changed anything in your regular diet? This sounds to me like an allergic reaction that might be caused by environmental factor. Have you changed anything in your life in past month? Sometimes even changing your washing powder can cause problems like this. Have you tried to use some topical cream for the rash and the skin peeling?
