Try eliminating all gluten from your diet and see what happens. It completely solved the problem for me. I know that it's gluten because if I eat even a little bit within 3 hours the skin around my eyes will start itching and swelling up. I've also had tearing with the tears burning the skin and making it worse; also the cracks at the corners of the mouth. All 100% gone with a gluten free diet.

AND btw I did not test positive for a wheat allergy. However the allergist said that food sensitivities can be very real and not show up as "true" allergies on tests. There is no way to test for them, you just have to experiment with your diet and see what happens. Other common problem foods are dairy and soy. However I am fine with those.

I strongly advise an elimination diet if the gluten free doesn't work within a few weeks. It's a hassle but well worth it if you can find out whether that's the real root of the problem.

I have suffered with red sore itchy eyes for the past 18months. I have been so embarrased with how my eyes look and i have felt very low because of this. Steriod drops from my eye specialist have helped but cannot be used for a long time. I have had an allergy test, which came back negative. I decided to try Mario Badescu control creme. I am willing to try anything to try a rid myself of my sore buffy itchy eyes. This cream has worked for me, give it a try you have nothing to loose. I cannot believe how it has made my eye lids feel thicker and the parts around my eyes are no longer itchy and red. I feel so much happier also my red eye has also gone. I thought i would never get rid of this problem, cannot praise this cream enough.

From your symptoms, it sounds like you may have Behce'ts Disease. Maybe look into it.

To everyone suffering from flaking facial skin, big cracks at the corners of your mouth, swollen eyes with dried liquid in the morning... you are drinking too much dairy.  I was drinking alot of half and half in my coffee for two years, and one day my face tried to peel off of my head!  I would never ever use those creams, so I had to start eliminating foods.  After two weeks, I can make all the symptoms return with a vengence, simply by eating any kind of dairy.  Even Cheese Doodles will do it.  Cut out dairy.  See what happens!

I had the same problem, got the chronic disease Sjögrens that usually comes with reactions to food like cealic disease and worse. I stopped eating ALL grains, avoided ALL starches (potato, corn, maize), removed refined sugar, caffeine (tea, coffee, chocolate) and both my lips and my eyes are now slowly getting back to normal. Also realized that a face cream I was using had something from rice in it which of course is a grain too so had been more or less poisoning my own skin. Only use olive oil and Nivea Almond oil cream on my face now and my skin seems a lot happier. But the pain when eating a fruit and it feeling like biting into battery acid or crying and it burning like fire was pure hell. x( So not ever going back to eating any of those things now that I finally got rid of it. ^_^ Incase you wonder why I had to go completely grain free it was because just gluten didnt do the trick, and only grains didnt remove all symptoms so was more than just one thing messing my face up. So nice not looking like a victim of some sort of plague anymore though. : )

Dont worry dude, I was living with same skin problem around my month for years, I drink a lot of water, eat healthy food and followed almost all the tips and home remedies on various sites, but was in vain when I discovered that it still persisted and was only gettng worse. I approached 2-3 dermatologist and even a plastic surgeon. Each of them prescribed different medicines and really made good business out of me, I wasted my time, the plastic surgeon I met prescribed me medicines that amounted 8K+ for each of the tubes. Luckily I didnt get them, as I have the habit of checking the reviews on the pros and corns of the medicines before buying them, and they were 'nt quite satisfactory. Well thats my story, but of late I identified the rootcause for my problem, it was due to me, Myself. yes, most of the skin problems are caused by eitherdiet or Fungus, If you are through with good diet, then it must be Fungus, My problem started off when i get up in the morning and start scratching my head and then touch my face without washing off my hands, it keeps itching the whole day and the skin becomes reddish and finally peel off on drying leaving the entire skin black. I was looking soo untidy with my face I was soo shy that I even avoided getting outside to the grocery nearby, since the every other person I meet enquires me about my problem and it turns me off, making me depressed that I scratch it all over again and it aggrevates.

Now that I dont touch my face unnecessarily and scratch it and its away from my hair, I wash my hair with lemon and a herbal shampoo and keep away from dandruff, and to regain my complexion back on that portion, I use very less quantity of hydrocortisone cream - Lycor 1% as it isnt much concentrated compared to 2% and higher degrees and the reviews read it is harmful if used for a prolonged period of time. But I decided to risk myself because I had the very habbit of trying every other cream and home remedies and nothing actually worked for years. but to my surprise, this worked for me. My itching completely stopped and my skin is regaining its glow, you know wht my mom's doctor who recomended the plastic surgeon said.. She says it has almost faded away and asked me for the cream name. Iam almost flying now. You may try this too as the Lycor cream i am using is cheap too (not more than 50 Rupees) and you may happy to apply very little on the skin. Well, Sorry, I am unaware of the problem that you have near your eyes.

Hi.

I had similar symptoms: puffy and cracked eyes and cracked corners of my mouth. I knew that the cracked corners of my mouth had to do with vitamin B and iron deficiency, but I wanted to figure out what causes this deficiency. I also hadn't realized that these problems--with the eyes AND the mouth--could be related until I stumbled upon your post. I went to the doctor's, and that was kind of pointless. She prescribed me cortisone cream for eyes. I never used it. What I did is I eliminated all bread and pasta from my diet. In three days my eyes got better. When I came back, she noticed the difference immediately and asked if it was the cream. She was surprised when I told her that it's gluten.

While I do not have celiac disease (the test came out negative), I noticed that if I do not eat bread, my eyes and mouth feel much, much, much better. If your body cannot digest gluten, your intestines cannot absorb nutrients, and you start having symptoms like you are describing. Once I stopped consuming gluten and the problems cleared, just out of curiosity I ate a little bit of wheat pasta, and my eyes got all puffy and little tiny cracks started developing. That was a sign to me that my self-diagnosis was correct.

In any case, I realize that your post is over a year old, but I hope this helps. Gluten is found in wheat, rye, barley, and often oats. I know, it's a pain to switch to gluten-free diet and find substitutes. I'm just starting to figure it out myself. However, by eliminating ALL sources of gluten in the beginning, I gave my body time to "come to," and now that I'm feeling better, I can start thinking about substitutes. Good luck to you. And thank you once again for starting this discussion thread. It really helped me in my research of this subject.

Your body's PH is probably out of whack. Do you have acid reflux? I do, badly, and am extremely acidy at the moment. Sore to pee, sore eyes, sore mouth inside and out. It's definitely not an infection. Am trying to eat alkaline veges and so on to get back on track.
