Deep red discharge 2 days after period

Hi. I have a question for anyone that is willing to answer. Last December (2005), I quit taking birth control. Since then, I haven't had a normal period, but before that I did. The days between my cycle in the past have ranged from 21 to 38, but this month, 12 days after my period, I started again (on average the bleeding lasts for 7 days). After the second period this month, I have experienced a deep red to almost brownish discharge only two days after my period. At first it was almost obsolete. However, the past two days have been quite noticable. I have experienced the "spotting" before, but it was about 2 weeks through my cycle. My husband and I are sort of trying to get pregnant. If anyone has any ideas as to what might be going on, I would appreciate your thoughts! Thank you!
