Hello everyone, I would like to thank everyone who responds to questions on this board. It has helped me very much through my problems.

Over a 2 year period, I was up to 9 lorcet 10's per day. They only seemed to work for me if I took ultram with them. I tapered down to 3 pills a day, with no more ultram and all of the sudden had a loud ringing in my ears. It is constant, and driving me crazy! My Dr. told me it was from withdrawals of the hydro, but I don't believe that. I have been tapering down week by week, and had not even quit when this happened. I have gone through the first day of withdrawals twice without this happening. Also, I have searched many different forums and can't find anyone who mentions having this problem.

????Has anyone else had this problem, or even heard of it???

Also, when the Dr. told me it was a withdrawal symptom, I decided that this would finally be my time to quit. I am on day three and just messed up terribly. I got into a horrific fight with my wife, and resorted to the pills immediately. I took 2 which did not help, so I took 3 two hours later.

I have gotten through the worst days already, and I am wondering if I will now have to go through that again.

My wife is has leukemia, and is living day to day. I cannot go through the worst days again in the same house with her. It is too much stress to put on her. Leaving the house is not an option. If I won't have to start all over, I am going to flush these pills and tell my Dr. that I was abusing them.

I am begging for advice, please help me.

Hi:

I'm sorry about your troubles and I wish your wife the very best each day. I think that you should start all over with a second opinion. Put together a withdrawal plan/schedule with the doctor. The NEW doctor. You are not getting the answers that you need from your current medical professionals. I don't think that cold turkey is a good idea, however. Get to the new doctor immediately so that you can change your program. You don't know what cold turkey will do to you. The ringing is most likely a result of the meds. There may be a remedy for that which will make the withdrawal easier. Are there people that you can schedule during the day to be with you wife while you are trying to see doctors and get healthy? Join a support group outside of your family so that you can support your wife. I hope this helps. Please let us know how things are going and what you find out.

I'm really glad to hear that you are quitting and that you are getting help with your issues but it's a good idea to do this with a support network and some professional help. I know that it's going to be har dto do, but without support, it is going to be ten times harder for you to get over than if you try to go at it with people around you. PLease keep us posted on how things are going for you. Thanks for letting us know.

Dear Ronny: Whatever you do DO NOT throw away those pills OK? You can actually have a heart attack going cold turkey. This could be SO bad not only for you but your wife - bless her! Right now is a VERY stressful time for you, and going through withdrawls and detoxing right now, might just be a recipe for failure. What I mean by that is this, Say you are an alcoholic and you are trying to quit, then you start working in a bar? This is the same thing.

When I was having drug problems, I NEVEr had ringing in my ear, and I've never heard of that either. Drug addiction is not the norm for the usual GP's to handle. So he could just be grasping at straws. It is more likely water in your inner ear, or TMJ! - pain in your upper jaw can usually acompany this.

i will tell you what I have told others, get a pill cutter. You have already done so well by cutting down, so now start cutting your pills in half and taking 2 1/2 then after a week or so, go down to 2 etc. IF you start having hard times with withdrawls, then keep at that level for longer. BUT that said, you do need to keep seeing your doctor, he needs to take your blood pressure and listen to your heart etc. Just to make sure there's not any adverse affects.

If you are still in pain, try weaning yourself off of the one pill and have your doctor figure out how much to give you of NON opiates to equal what you are cutting off. This way it will trick your brain! Your brain is the pain center AND the addiction center, and they are VERY close indeed. Just do it slowly Rony. You can talk to me any time about it, I'm usually on this bloody thing! ;-) 8-| XD And I wish your wife and you all the health in the world!!!
