I have emailed most of the austrailan food companies asking them what foods of theirs can i eat with the allergy I have and I have been tood that I can not have any of their food.
I have found that the Red and White sweet potato is not in this family or related group.

Hi there,
potatos and many vegtables more are histamine rich food. Histamine rich food are everything which ripens like fruits, cheese and red wine. Of course there are many more but you can check up with a list on the internet. You should go and talk to your doctor if its possible to take some dietary supplement like Daosin. Daosin is checking the histmaine level in your body and makes it possible to eat whatever you want. Maybe you can eat potatos ;) You should definitely ask you doc! ;)

I am highly allergic to Nightshade foods-potato/tomato/egg plant/etc. My husband and I eat Nature's Own Whole Wheat Bread without any problems. Hope this helps. I'm also allergic to Birch-apples. :(

You may want to be careful of potatoes. My father developed his potato allergy over the years. It started with only having a problem with potatoes that had already turned green. In a ten year time frame, it became a life threatening allergy. I am also allergic but avoided them for years since I knew I took heavily from my father's genes. When I reached around the same age as he began to have extreme reactions, I discovered that I had the allergy, too. Since I had mostly avoided potatoes, I have no idea when it truly developed. Be very careful!

Hi, I have exactly the same problems as you....very frustrating when 'healthy' diets are quoted at me and I would love to eat fresh fruit and vegetables! Potato appears everywhere, and just when I think its under control I inadvertantly eat something with it is. Lots of companies seem to use potato starch as a way of avoiding wheat, but it contaminates pretty much all prepared foods. Rubbish when you are out and fancy a snack, or wedding buffets etc. Rice gets a bit boring after a while, however you dress it up! In the UK our diet is very potato dependent, hard to find a dish without it in restaurants.
Any lists of supermarket foods to avoid available? Wheat seems fairly well covered and mustard, but not potato!

You commented over a year ago, but I am hoping you see my reply. I am gluten intolerant and, although I have not been tested for a potato intolerance, I have discovered that I react to potatoes as I do with gluten.
I've read many websites, blogs, and so forth on potato intolerance and what to look out for when buying food. Basically, I've come to understand that life is challenging for me when. It comes to food! Lol
I am hoping that you may give me a few tips or recipes on what you do for food when having to be on the lookout for gluten and potatoes.
For the gist, I know that homemade food is it for me, no cutting corners, not even when it comes to cheese (shredded cheese).

I am having more problems in correlation to gluten intolerance awareness as suppliers are using potatoes more frequently.
Potato starch, fibre, protein along with potato used as a findings for wine, maltodextrin, the list goes on and on.
Potato starch is also used as a bunker in medications such as ibrobrufen, paracetamol and aspirin.
