Diagnosed with meibomitis

How long ago were you diagnosed with your meibomitis? How long have you been living with it? What symptoms do you have? Are you receiving any treatment for it? How well are you coping with it? I have been battling this eye inflammation for 7 months.I just returned from Boston with the diagnosis and was hoping to talk with others who have meibomitis.It is a very painful and mentally draining condition. Dr's. have tried drops which made things worse and don't seem interested in finding the cause just over medicating and covering up the problem.I do hope someone will participate with their experiences.As this is my first time to a forum,I really do not know how to reply to your post,so I am just writing on yours.Thank You for your response.

Don't worry about posting incorrectly. You did just fine! I think that it's unfortunate that you are currently dealing with doctors who are unable to help with the problem. I think that it's an unfortunate situation to be in because it makes you feel unappreciated and a little scared. Were you able to get treatment for it or are you still struggling to find a doctor who can help you? I hope that you have actually been able to at least get treatment--keep us posted!

Thank You for replying.You are very kind.No,the specialist in Boston just told me that the prooblem cannot be fixed but can be managed such as diabetes or other medical issues.He suggested I get the eye mask from thera tears to try and I am seeing another Dr. next Thursday.I read on some old posts(like 2003) on another website some time back that Dr's really don't know how to treat this condition and here it is 9 years later and they still don't.I started with eye inflammation in October 2008.My doctor then told me he was treating me for meibomitis and then came various different eyedrops(zylet,alrex,lotemax)all of which I had severe reactions to and my inflammation worsened and did all the regular hot soaks,Baby shamooo,steri-lid scrub,doxycycline(which after 2 plus weeks I developed intense head pressure,tinnitus,nausea,chills -2 trips to the emergency room,4 different doctors,an ent specialist and a neurologist and I am still trying to get relief!!!!!!About a month ago my opthamologist started trying treating me for hsv-1 of the eyes(as he was fishing and looking for other possibilities.More antibiotics!!!!Then he did a biopsy of one eye.My purpose now is to try and find someone who wants to try and fix the oil glands that are supposedly dried up like cement???????I am taking fish oil,just started cold pressed flaxseed oil and doing warm soaks and lid massage.I would so much like to find a forum or chat with others and see how they are managing.Well,thanks so much for the interest.Sandy

I was just diagnosed with this too. My Dr told me to use drops, lid scrubbers and apply warm compress at least twice a day. The compress is the most important!! You should see relief if you do these things within 2 weeks.
