My husbands left arm had been hurting for about 2 years. I finally
convinced him to go see the doctor. The doctor didn't pay too much
attention to his arm but started a physical and declared that he thought
he had a tumor on his liver. Doctor did US and a CT scan plus blood
work. Doctor called a week later and said there was no worry that the
radiologist said it was Hemangioma and there was nothing to be done
about it, it was like a birth mark. We breathed a sigh of relief but
then other things started happening. I should say it was 6 months ago
that he had these tests and was diagnosed. Hubby started losing weight, 2
clothing sized and 30 or so pounds. appetite was gone, very tired, and his skin was
getting dark. The doctor didn't seem worried so I took it upon myself to
look for a doctor who specialized in liver problems. Found one at
IU(Hepatologist)and made an appointment(took 2 months to get in). My
hubby does drink and has for years but it is a few drinks each day after
work. The family doctor had given us a CD of his ct scan which we took
with us and surprise the Hep specialist could not even read it it was so
fuzzy. He said he would have to contact other doctor since it wasn't
readable. He also took blood and prescribed 3 kinds of vitamins and made
another appointment for 2 months later. I guess I want to know if hubby
might have been misdiagnosed and if this is something else other than a
non life threatening hemaignoma. Anyone that can help is appreciated.

Well, hemangiomas are in a way non-threatening and for most of people they don't cause any problems, but the things that can play a part here are the size and the number of hemangionas in the liver. Hemangiomas do take the part of liver blood support and if they are large enough the can put pressure on nearby organs and nerves, so it really is vital for an expert to get that CT scan. When hemangioma starts to cause the symptoms theuy usually are related to stomach - lack of appetite, loss of weight, malnutrition and lack of important vitamins in body. But do you have to wait for the blood test results for two months also?

I am thinking we will hear nothing until the next appointment. I had thought that since we were dealing with the liver here we might see some symptoms of live imbalance but from what I have read those with diagnosed hermangiomas usually gain weight from water buildup, hubby lost considerable weight enough so that we had to buy new clothes. He looks at least several years older too, he is 54. Wonder what all the blood work will tell us? they took 7 vials. I am sure his drinking will be an issue too. I guess to me anyway, these symptoms came on too fast and all at once. He says other than his arm hurting he has no real pain.
