TAlmost the same thing is happening to me. My father is 85 years old, retired dentist but still works every morning with the dentist that bought his practice. He is very smart and always knows what he is talking about. Last saturday @ 2am he went to emergency room with right arm, shoulder and chest pain. Doctors said it was a spasm. Got home 8:30 am didn't go to sleep, went to his grandaughter's volleyball game until 3pm. Ran some errands went out with his lady friend to dinner, got home about 11pm. He thinks he's still 20. He had trouble going to sleep. So he took an Ambien and 650mg Percocet for his arm and shoulder pain. Sunday after not being able to sleep well, he went out again to visit my aunt, had a couple of wines. He kept falling asleep and that's when he started hallucinating (his girlfriend told me). He thought they were dreams since he kept falling asleep, so we didn't make much out of it. That night he wasnt able to sleep well either. On Monday @ about 6pm my sister called and said he was acting strange and kept talking nonsense and seeing things(hallucinating; people talking, a priest, etc). We took him to the emergency room again, he kept compalining of an acute arm and shoulder pain. He got a CT Scan, chest x rays and labs. CT Scan and labs were fine. We left before X-Rays. The next day (Tuesday)we went to the doctor and found out he had shingles and to top it off pneumonia (we got x-rays). I was with him Tuesday all day, he was pretty sharp, didn't hallucinate. We started giving him Valtrex for shingles and antibiotic. This morning (Wednesday)he doesn't look so well, he seems spaced out. Even though he's not talking to people that aren't there, he told me he was hallucinating, but only when he closed his eyes. He said it was entertaining. His hands are trembling and weren't before and he still hasnt been able to get more than an hour of sleep during the day or at night. He falls asleep for 45min to an hour and wakes up. Then goes back to sleep. I am worried that he's still hallucinating and afraid to tell us and will like to find out whats wrong with him.
MEDS he takes on a regular basis: Cozaar, Toprol, Plavix, Prilosec, Flomax, Vitorin, Aricept, Lyrica, Melatonin(pm). MEDS he takes for shingles and pneumonia: Valtrex (shingles), Avelox (antibiotic), Alvesco and Xopenex (inhalers for Asthma)
Any comments or advice please? Thank you.
