Hi, I'm a 21-year old female and I've always had problems going to the bathroom--I don't move bowels regularly (everyday or every other day, like normal people); it's really irregular and sometimes I'd get headaches/feverish when I don't go for 3 days. I've tried all sorts of things to help me, lots of fiber and water; but after a while, those remedies just don't work anymore. I used to think that every time I moved my bowel and feel a little pain; finding it hard to sit for a while was normal. That was until one day I pushed too hard and there was a prolapse. Recently though, even when my stools are softer, I notice that there's a reddish discharge on the toilet paper. It looks like blood but more diluted. I am really scared because my father told me that once there's blood, I would need to have surgery right away. Is this true? I'd appreciate some thoughts even before I see my doctor. The last time (about a year ago) I visited doctors, about 3 of them said I was okay and there was no internal bleeding. I am very worried.....

Hi Robyn,

It may be a hemorrhoid.

See your doctor.  Don't keep putting it off.
