I was wondering if anyone else has had the same experience as me as far as triggers for trich. I know that my hair pulling didn't start with stress, it started when i was about 10 years old and i would feel spots on my scalp that were completely numb at times... the spots weren't always numb, but sometimes. I would touch the spots and wonder why i couldn't feel them but thought nothing of it. As i got older the frequency in which the numbness occurred increased until finally when i was 12 years old i tried pulling hair out of one of the areas on the upper right part of the crown of my head. To my surprise, the hair slipped right out with no pain whatsoever. As i get older i continue to pull the hair out of this spot at certain times, letting it grow back every once in a while. The spot itself is getting bigger, but it always has enough hair to cover it, but i can feel the numbness of it spanning out. I am now 17 years old and the other spots that get numb are starting to let hair go as easily as the one on the back of my head. I was just curious if it is normal for hair or skin to just "go numb" because the i seriously can't feel those parts of my scalp.

This has been my experience too. I really don't honk mine is stress related. A sensation in a particular of the crown of my scalp would trigger me to pull. If I never get that sensation at that particular spot. I don't pull. I've gone about two months without having a spell that last a few days. But some kind of way, I just won't let a spot get to big and my hair in other places covers it very well. But I'm curious as to why this sensation sometimes numbness comes and goes.
