Hello! During the last year I have had several urinary infections. I thought it must have been related to my dressing inadequately or something like that. I, of course, went to doctor every time and after the 4th visit he sent me for some additional analysis. I was diagnosed with duplicated ureter. The doctor explained that it was the reason for all my infections and that if I would not get an operation soon it might damage my kidneys too. I had several concerns and he mostly explained what happens during and after the operation. Yet I heard some stories from my friends that I might be needing stents after the operation. Will I need stents after the operation?

I cannot answer your question based on any hard facts or personal or immediate experience, all I can offer you is “hear-tell’ information. I read a lot of medical articles in the women’s magazine that I am prescribed to and I have read some articles on urethra surgery. As I can remember it usually involves placing the stent during the operation that helps you drain the fluid during the recovery but it is usually removed after 3-6 weeks. I hope I helped you, but you should better consult your doctor too.

I couldn’t agree more with the statement that you should better consult your doctor! It is also true that the surgical interventions on urethra usually involve the internal stent being placed. I am sure that you will not need to use the catheter very long though. Ureteral duplication is usually not a serious condition, and once you cure your infections and have the operation I am sure you will be fine soon. Do talk to your doctor about all your concerns and you might even ask him to let you talk to some of his patients that have already had the operation about their post-operational experience.
