I had similar troubles. Testicles pained, ached, balls acted strange during sex, and I stopped having erections. Dr. said I had aging male syndrome and epididimitis from getting older at age 50. Said it'd just get worse and hurt more as I get older and offered to do surgery. I thought it sounded wrong and said no to surgery right away. Because I was sure thinking after I read the surgical release form in all details that maybe the Dr. would just cut both of my balls clear off while I was knocked out and it'd be too late to save my nuts and reattach both when I woke up. Dr. said yes the surgical release and permission form wording does allow him to castrate me while I'm knocked out if he thinks its best for me once he cuts my nut sack open and sees what's going on inside me. I said h-ll no and now I'm just wearing a jock strap all day and getting better with more time to heal natural. Don't let them open your nut sack without being sure the Dr. agrees not to castrate you first. And ask for local numbing during the surgery to stay wide awake and able to say h-ll no if they try to cut your balls off once they get you cut open and see inside your ball sack.

hi everyone I also have some experience with this issue
I have some steps you need to take and I hope it helps someone out there
first do a sperm analyst over collect sperm in sterile cup and keep at body temperature and take to lab within one hour very very important see what the results are
second see an infectious md after you get results
start taking zinc copper balance you can find it in health store or on amazon take three times a day morning afternoon night
15mg/1mg copper I believe is correct
this helps immensely
drink alkaline water also can get in health food store or amazon etc.
eat healthy diet avoid smoking if possible because causes vasoconstriction and increases pain
avoid sitting for long periods avoid heavy lifting avoid constipation
take anti inflammatory, elevate scrotum when in pain and warm with very warm cloth will help a lot but be careful don't burn yourself!
try to stay positive!! talk to a professional if you have to or very close person you can trust.
scrotal support will help as well
let me know your thought questions
I wrote this quickly so please excuse any typos or lack of info

Epididymitis is an awful condition. I sympathize with everyone here. Because I was finally able to get rid of it, I wanted to leave a comment to maybe give some of you hope. There are so many stories out there of men who have had it for months, sometimes years, and I was afraid I becoming one of them.
I had a bit of a double whammy, where I came down with an inguinal hernia and epididymitis in the same week - what are the odds? At the beginning there was some confirmation bias as the doctors knew I had a hernia, therefore the hernia must be what is causing pain in my testicle. But as many of you know, the pain you feel in your testicle from Epididymitis is a "different" type of pain. Regardless, they put me on levofloxacin for 10 days (no effect), then put me on doxycycline for another 10 days (still no effect).
After the surgery for the hernia, and the post op pain started to subside, the pain in my testicle remained. It was obvious then the pain was not from the hernia. I forced the issue again with my Primary Care and asked to be referred to a Urologist. This was 9 weeks after the pain started and I was reaching my limit. Over the course of these 9 weeks, I did blood tests for STD's, white blood count, urine analysis, all the routine checks, except for an ejaculate analysis - all came back fine.
I'm a 36 yrs old, no risky sexual activity and in good health. The urologist was comfortable with his diagnosis of epididymitis/orchitis and prescribed Bactrim (commonly used for UTI's). The urologist said that because our plumbing down isn't part of a valve system, meaning fluids can flow in both directions, perhaps this was caused by urine back flow, hence the Bactrim. After taking the Bactrim I noticed a difference within 6 hours, and it progressively got better every day. I was on Bactrim for 1 week before I started to feel some uncomfortable side effects, so the Urologist switched me to Keflex. The Keflex picked up where the Bactrim left off and I am on my way to recovery.
It's been 2 weeks now since I finished the Keflex and I feel almost 100%. I'm terrified it's going to come back so I'm doing everything in my power to prevent that - fully empty your bladder, go when you feel the urge - don't wait, drink cranberry juice, or take the supplement, healthy diet full of fruits and veggies, load up on the antioxidants. All those things we know we should be doing, but sometimes don't.
All-in-all, hang in there guys, keep pushing your doctor. The pain is being caused by something. Don't give up until you figure out what it is.
Oh, and for those who are still recovering like me, hold off on masturbating until you are 90-100%. No joke. You have a lot of fluids built up down there, and when they release, you're going to feel it. I did it when I was 75% and it set me back 3 days.

Just want to write back on here as I always said to myself if I found my cure I would. I have found my cure / I am cured. I saw a specialist in pelvic pain who examined me and told me that I had tight pelvic floor muscles which were exerting pressure on the nerves running down toward my testicles which is the reason for your pain. After a month prescription of an alpha blocker called Xtral. I am now pain free.
I would highly suggest any of you who find yourself at a dead end to seek out a professional or even ask your doctor about tight pelvic floor muscles. He also said its a psychological condition which is why I was put on the alpha blockers as a confidence boost so I could realise that it was my pelvic floor muscles.
Hope this helps some people. It was my solution!

Thank you so much for posting. I am going to attempt this treatment. Just wondering if you could give an update. I know how pesky this condition can be. Don't know that if your treatment is ideal for all suffering from chronic epididymitis, but for those of us whose is almost certainly due to bacteria, you make a strong case.
I am convinced mine was due to back flow after masterbating about 11 weeks ago. I remember it specifically - like it went down the wrong pipe. 3 days later my left testicle was suddenly inflamed and it has been a war since. i did still masterbate early on occasionally on good days taking some of the advice I read online or trying to convince myself I was healing. The effects (good or bad) were difficult to determine but decided mostly bad.
I stopped masterbating completely around week 4. Around week 9 I had a string of particularly good days and decided to give it a whirl. In part to gauge my recovery but also because it made some sense that I might want to rid any residual bacteria - and of course just anxious to feel recovered. This was a terrible mistake.
In the hours following, I was doing terrible. Oddly enough the pain was not so terrible my testicle/epididymis where you would think the damaged and recovering parts might be most effected by the trauma (moving sperm) but instead all the usual symptoms of the lower abdomen and urinary tract were very severe.
I'm now on week 11 and have had very few good days since. Obviously have not mastebated since and will not till I am 100% for a good while. Just my experience and maybe the symptoms would have cycled back around to whatever extent. But wanted to express that, inspite of plenty of opinions I've heard going the other direction, I share the opininion that it is best to hold off as long as possible.

Hi I believe it is also yeast that causes the problem.I have suffered for 20 years with Candida type symptoms caused by yeast.I get chronic epididimytis usually after drinking beer or eating anything with yeast as an ingredient. If I take my 50 billion probiotic and religiously stay away from yeast I feel better after 3-5 days.I have seen many private doctors who never are able to help but yeast is always the pinpoint for me.Feel terrible on and after antibiotics also which makes sense!!!Stay away from yeast and should help symptoms!!

sorry the return hit on its own. ok i have had epididymitis twice first time for 4 months that was two years ago the and second time for 3 weeks bout two weeks ago.. now this is important !!!! this only works with the bacterial infection side of things, other types I am sure it doesn't... but taking a 14 day course of 200g in the morning and 200g at night of Trimethoprim dealt with it, but make sure you masturbate everyday. do this coz it clears your pipes of infection , it worked for me.. no more than once though, and sometimes it can hurt, if it does give it a days rest.. but still try to cum once a day .. mine went twice through this... I hope it helps, its a miserable condition. best of luck guys

Hello guys, today is approximately 3 months living with antibiotics i am diagnosed with Epididymitis. I just visited urology specialist, checked and found i am clear from infection.
Minor swollen at lower part still persist but doctor said some patients forever going to have it.
Below are treatments that i would to share apart of taking antibiotic
1) Daily Sitz bath, Sauna or Jaguzzi - It's really useful and to ease the swollen at almost immediate effect but swollen will come back in 2-3 hours. Very little of improvement day by day.
2) quarter Watermelon, some strawberry, blueberry and 1 Lemon daily. All are Anti-Inflammatory, boost immune and high vitamin fruit
3) Probiotics - Known to be best supplements and taking together with antibiotics.
4) Daily exercise to boost immune system. Take those exercises not affecting infection parts. Swimming will be suitable
5) 3 serving of Salmon fish weekly - Known to increase immune system
6) No sugar in the entire episode - Sugar is known helping to bread the bacteria.
7) Enough bed rest whenever possible
8) Yoga exercise when your infection almost clear and not painful - this is helping blood circulation to get the optimal result of the antibiotics, probiotics and the nutrition food that you have taken. Antibiotics is hard to reach epididymitis infection parts so you need Yoga to help.
9) No mutton, eggs, peanut or seafood
As a summary, i believe the appropriate bed rest, right diet and enough exercise to keep your immune system optimal are the ultimate answer to cure yourself. I used to be an extreme sport guy but i will have this infection when i stopped exercise for a couple of months. This is the second time i been infected.
Good luck folks and i really know the entire episode is super killing.

Hi all, many thanks for your tips. I am 25 years old and have had epididymitis for about 6 weeks now. Thought I'd share my story.
I first noticed a problem after I started experiencing irritation after urination. Eventually the irritation became constant and I also began to experience a discharge from the tip of my penis. I went to the doctor within one week and tested positive for chlamydia. I was put on 7 days of doxycycline (200mg/day) straight away.
It is as I started the course of doxycycline that I noticed a periodic ache in my testes. The doxycycline cleared up the symptoms of chlamydia fine, but the ache in my testes became more frequent. I went back to the doctor who prescribed me 1.5g of azithromycin, which also had no effect on the ache in my testes. I returned to the doctor who prescribed me ofloxacin (300mg/day) for 10 days. He checked my testes and diagnosed epidydymitis, with some mild swelling on the right side. The ofloxacin had some effect, but the ache returned after the course was finished. I returned after the ten days and the doctor prescribed me a further 14 days of ofloxacin (300mg/day). He felt my testes and said that the swelling on the right side has gone down...I don't think it has. I am now on my twelfth day and the pain in my testes remains.
I have a constant tingling sensation down below that radiates down into my thighs and the back of my knees. I also have periodic sharp pain in both epidydymi, mainly on the right side. I have experienced virtually no improvement since I began taking antibiotics 6 weeks ago. I have started to take ibuprofen (around 1g/day), which has helped marginally. The sensation is very distracting and gets worse when I am sitting for long periods.
I elevate my testicles and apply ice immediately after taking my antibiotics. I have heard that this can drain the testes of blood, allowing fresh blood to enter. I am not sure if this has any medical basis. I have also started taking warm baths every other day.
Masturbation causes no pain but my orgasms are weaker than they were. I have stopped drinking.
I suspect the residual ache is due to nerve damage caused by the chlamydia infection, since I do not see how the infection could have survived the antibiotics that I've taken.
One other thing is worth mentioning: I did experience an occasional pain in my testes over a period of approximately 1-2 weeks around 10 months ago. It was enough to tell my friends about. However, I did not visit a doctor. I wonder if I already had epididymitis at that stage and that it has lain dormant for 10 months. Has anyone heard of something like this, i.e. dormant epidydymitis? If I have indeed had epididymitis for such a long time it gives me less hope of recovery, because I've heard that the longer you leave it, the longer it can take to go away (if at all).
In the meantime I have started to take daily: 1g ibuprofen, turmeric extract, fish oil, 1.5-2g of vitamin C per, vitamin B complex, a teaspoon of vitamin E oil, echinacea. I plan to start on saw palmetto and cranberry extract today.
I will visit the acupuncturist in 4 days and will update.

I had started having a dull ache in my right testicle, which then moved to the left one which wasn't as bad. Then a couple days later I had a dull ache in my back as well. I went to prompt care and was diagnosed with epididymitis. The doctor prescribed cipro which seemed to clear it up for the most part (have still had an occasional ache in my testicles but back pain is gone), it gave me some nausea so my primary gave me doxycycline to continue. I haven't been sexually active in 5+ years, and haven't had symptoms of a UTI. Anyone know what could have caused the epididymitis?
