I have hpv and one of the symptoms is a thick vaginal discharge. If the discharge is clear, this isnt somthing you should worry about. But if its dark (red, brown, purple) in color you should talk to your doctor as soon as you can. Untreated hpv can cause many uncomfortable problems.

For 2 years i kept going to the doctor with discharge problems, oh its this and oh its that, take this and take that... maybe its cervical cancer, maybe it is vagintitis, maybe you have an std, maybe its a yeast infection, maybe its BV... about a $1,000 later... an older male doctor in his 60's at the "discounted hospital" Says to me "get off the birth control, and see what happens..."

guess what... NEVER ANOTHER PROBLEM!!! 10% of woman have so many side effects down there thinking they are dying, got cancer, or an STD... and it's really BIRTH CONTROL SIDE EFFECTS!!!! Believe me, I kept researching and researching online, other girls, my own home remedies, doctors antibiotics this and cream of that, use this use that... NO ITS BIRTH CONTROL! But do they tell us this... NO... Why... they don't make money off of, oh just get off the bc you will be fine.

Just to let you know, what a doctor with no conflict of interest of $ told me :-)

Hope I saved someone some of the agony I went through!!!

Okay, I'm 14 and I've been getting my period for a little over a year. I've been having normal discharge for longer. I haven't gotten my period this month yet, It can't be because of pregnancy because I'm a virgin. I'm pretty sure stress is putting it off. Although, I've been noticing my discharge is sometimes like mucus in a sticky clump. Before this period of time, this has never happened. What could explain this. Once again, I'm a virgin and has never had any type of sexual intercourse. Thanks. :$

I am 20 years old, and I am in a steady relationship and not on birth control. I have been having this sort of gooey wet mucus, comes every so often, and I can't figure out why! It dries if I don't change my underwear [which I do, constantly], and it doesn't have a foul odor but it does have a distinctive smell. I was just wondering, how do the rest of you deal with it? I generally do not wear panty liners because I am sensitive to something in them [wearing them makes me itchy :$]. Please advise!

I'm not a doctor or a nurse but I have (unfortunately) had many yeast infections. Here are things I've learned along the way:
1) Antibiotics are the devil (at least for your vagina) - a nurse explained to me once that they work by going after bacteria - good or bad, so pretty much whenever I take antibiotics I get a yeast infection, in fact i can bet money on it. It's bound to screw up your discharge but does it hurt? Is the discharge 'classic' infection - the cottage cheese? Or is it just different? Stock up on the yogurt and cranberry juice if you know you're going to take them
2) once you've had an infection you're more prone to them. you have to figure out what makes you break out - is it synthetic underwear (not cotten)? Is it tight clothes so that the vagina can't breathe? A doc told me once she had a patient that every time she wore a swimsuit for an extended period of time she got one.
3) If you don't know if you have one, the mucus gives you an indication, the pain tells you the answer - if you have mucus and no pain I would guess it's something else. When I first got a yeast infection, I didn't know what it was (or that I had anything) and I made the mistake of attempting to have sex. DO NOT have sex with a yeast infection - the books say it's painful, it felt like glass shards. My new rule of thumb if I think something is wrong: try a tampon and if it hurts, go to the doc to confirm your diagnosis.

Keep in mind too that your age plays a role. My friend is 28 and was having problems - she went to her gyno and she said that it's just b/c her body is changing. She said it happens in your early 20s and late 20s - so that could be it too.

As I get older I've noticed the discharge changes - gets heavier in between periods, has gotten more, has gotten less ( this is over time) but the biggest thing that will tip you off of a problem is pain or sensitivity. Even if it's just more sensitive than usual that could be indicative of a problem.

Hello, I am worried about my friend and this site seemed helpful, so I wanted to ask a question.

She has a cyst in her ovary and is probably going to start taking birth-control pills soon to prevent (something?) going wrong with the cyst. She has had a urinary tract infection recently but I'm pretty sure she cured it. If not, a urinary tract infection (or any infections, really) can cause excessive mucus, right? Because she keeps asking her gynocologist about it but the doctor just tells her theres nothing to worry about, but it's bothering her very much. If it's not from the infection, can ovarian cysts cause excessive mucus?

Please answer. %-)

I'm 14, and have had alot alot alot of vaginal mucus, or discharge or whatever it could be for over 2 months.
I've had my period twice during this though, and I have taken some yeast infection treatment but it hasn't seemed to help.

Yes, I have had sex, but only with my boyfriend and we were both virgins, i thought it was the condoms we used and i had an allergic reaction. but shouldn't have gone away by now? it's been over a month.

I have to wear pantyliners all the time because it comes out so often. I hate it, and I need help to figure out what could possibly
be wrong until i can actually go to my doctors! PLEASE HELP.

I am 22, sexually active, with no STDs. I have been on Micronor, the Progestogen only pill for years to stop my periods due to heavy periods in the past which have lasted 2 months, consistantly heavy throughout. My vaginal discharge is constantly heavy throughout the month, everyday. Sometimes, like today, it's very thick and mucas like (similar to nasal mucas) and somedays its thick and colourless but it's always really heavy and I always get a staining in my underwear. Is there anything to possibly lessen this discharged

Hello,

I am 13 and have the same thing. I have just had my last batch of hpv vaccine, and i was wondering if it was something to do with that. My science teacher told me you will get some symptoms of whatever youre being vaccinated against. I also spoke to my mum asbout it, and she said it was normal. Don;t worry, itll be fine :)

I have had vaginal discharge for years! No burning, no infections. I've just seen a gyno and he examined my cervix. He said that there are two skins that are around the outside of the cervix, one that is pink which is usually bigger that the one that is red. In my case, the red skin flap is much larger (almost the size of my cervix opening) and this is causing the excess discharge. You can have surgery to have it fixed which will lessen the discharge significantly. I suggest talking to a gyno about this as a possibility.

I too have exessive vaginal mucus. I have been treated for vaginitis but the mucus is still there. I also have excessive mucus in my throat. Are they somehow connected?

I don't know but I have this same problem also. I was treated for a yeast
infection and when that didn't work they gave me another anti-fungal and
an antibiotic. I developed the throat mucus after the antibiotic was given.
I wonder if I don't have very resistant yeast and have yeast in my throat too?

Thats strange because I just went to planned parenthood for a check up because I've been having itching down there and clumpy discharge. I go there thinking I have a yeast infection and I leave with no info on whats going on. The doctor told me I have excessive mucus and discharge! I am freaking out waiting for the results. They gave me an antibiotic as well & the one day yeast infection pill. I don't understand. I don't know if I had a yeast infection or if I have something more serious. I know how vaginitis feels, I've had it a couple times before. This is not it because their isn't any odor. Their was just intense itching and clumpy discharge that has now gone away. Should I be concerned that it's something more? When I went to the doctor I asked if it was a yeast infection and they didn't know. Wouldnt that show up in a pap smear? I'm baffled! & Sooooo concerned for my health.
