Hi, exotropia is noticeable by deviation of the eyes. In the beginning, this form of strabismus is noticed only when the child is tired or not feeling well. The deviation is more obvious when the child looks in the distance. A child may be start to squint or rub one of the eyes, and sunlit environments may provoke child to close one eye. Eye muscle surgery is usually needed if the exotropia is present for more than 50% of each day, and it’s frequency increases over time. Some children even lose "binocular vision", meaning the brain is no more using both eyes, and by this in depth perception is lost.
