Hi, sometimes when i swallow food or drink i feel like i am going to pass out. It feels like i can't swallow because it get stuck in my throat, chest and i can't breathe and i get really dizzy feeling and see stars. The last time this happend i did pass out and it was caused by a soda. I was diagnosed with 4 ulcers about 12 years ago but was treated and cured of those and feel totally different from that. I am only 39 but this has been going on for about a year and it seems to be getting worse. Any info on this would greatly help. I am chicken at this point to go to the Doctor and don't want to go unnessasary.

Hi, I wouldn’t call passing out after meals unnecessary doctor’s visit. I would suggest you saw your GP and asked for a referral to a gastroenterologist and be checked for GERD.
You could be feeling dizzy and fainting because of the anxiety and high blood pressure that occurs when you develop this sensation of food being stuck in your throat. That is a symptom of GERD. Passing out is not so common with this disorder and I honestly feel that you should have this investigated even if you had to undergo those nasty tests.

I notice that eating causes me to get dizzy. I switched to a more liquid diet. Can my throat repair itself? How long will it take? It has been a year of general suffering.

I feel the same way! When I eat I feel anxiety and can't swallow. Actually this happens all the time. Even without eating. I try to focus on swallowing but I cant. Then I go into panic mode. I feel like I have no hope. Wth is going on? I feel if I go to a doctor I'm going to look insane.

Hi my husband has the same problem and did pass out. I did some research and found that it could come from his neck or his spine. The article did say if someone has an injured neck or spine it could cause this problem of food getting stuck and causes dizziness. He did injure his neck years ago when he fell in a ditch. It said one treatment would be going to a chiropractor.
