I still haven't quite beaten this, but i have (i believe) come close. I posted as a guest last year that fennel helped. I had quit for three months and then I had severe allergies. After weeks of suffering I tried Betaine Hydrochloride. (research this yourself... seems safe to me) Within hours I had become superman. More energy & strength than I have ever felt. Allergies went away and the bloating was gone. A few days later I went to a gastroenerologist who wanted me to try Citrucel and it ruined everything. I had to go back to smoking about a week later. Ever since then I haven't quite made it back to where I was.
Even though I'm not quite over this yet, I do think it can be done. Fennel still seems to be the most important part. But also need the Betaine. It seems that our stomach acid stops when we quit smoking. I believe my stomach was over run with bacteria which led to the allergies. If you try the betaine, start out slow, one pill with a full meal for a week or so. It's tempting to take more, but I believe our stomach linings need time to get used to it. I took too much too soon & it made me sick again. But now I can take 5 or 6 pills at a time with no problem. Also the first couple days you quit, only eat twice a day about 8 hours apart. Being hungry is a lot easier than dealing with that bloat. Drink a lot of water with food. I've tried both heavy & no water and drinking a lot is way better. Gas X helps a good bit too. 4 tablets a day. Exercise gives some relief, at least while you're doing it. And having a couple days where you can lie around doing nothing & avoiding all stress is a great way to start. And avoid high fiber/bran. Rather than clearing things out quicker, it seems to just cause way more bloating. I believe constipation is a symptom rather than the cause of our problem. I've been fighting this for 10 years and very intensly this past year. If I make any more progress I will update. I didn't want to wait any longer to post incase it might be able to help someone.
