i like meditaing but i find i get desturbed because of pain froum being unable to find a comfortable long term position. this is frustrating and very intrusive is there any better positions than the common lotus and cross legged positions i could try?

Honeslty, the best position for me is sitting up in my bed, which has really improved my ability to meditate for longer and more quality periods of time. Have you considered that? It would work really well for you, I think. How about trying that?
