I've been on methadone for probably about a 1yr and a hlf. I'm 24  years old, and would like to get off this as fast as possible. I am going back to college in september and do not want the hassle of having to go there every couple of days, and also don't want to have to deal with a wk or two of sickness when I finally to get near the end, and have to miss school, as my program is very heavy. I have been clean for approx 8-9 mos. The most I went to was 50mg, and I am now down to 18 mg. If anyone could give some advice as to what I could do to help my situation that would be awesome. Like I said I would like to be off by the beginning of sept. It is now the middle of June. Please help.

I can definitely help you. I was on methadone for 7 years and did it MYSELF! I am 2 months clean of everything and LOVE it! FREEDOM AT LAST:D It wasnt even that bad! But I had a very supportive boyfriend and 8yr old daughter. You need at least 1 adult to go through it with you who is supportive of your decision. Also, you have to be determined to get off and stay off. You will feel a little sore, and have leg cramps, diahreah (although nothing major) and will need vitamin/mineral supplements EVERYDAY. I put together a withdrawal kit that i took everywhere for 2wks which included; IMMODIUM-for diahreah, ADVIL extra strength-for when I needed them which at first was everyday for about 2 wks, GRAVOL-your stomache will have problems but dont be discouraged....it wont last for long and will just come and go until your body adjusts. Also, you will need a good multi-vitamin to take regularly each morning. AND if you were not much of a water drinker before-you Will NEED to be now! I MADE myself drink water with a few squirts of lemon in it (for taste and to help detox my system) Also you will NEED a heating pad to help ease leg cramping or back aches. Your diet should consist of Hard-boiled eggs (one each morning) and yogurt, chicken breast, rice, pasta, salads. I stayed away from junkfood, pork, dairy-besides yogurt, and fruit (it will really upset your stomache!) If you feel like you have NO appetite-keep a few BOOST or ENSURE drinks on hand. They help with energy and are jam-packed with protein which is definitely what your body needs. Also, use your bath tub for hot bathes to soak in-that helped me the most i think in the first 2wks. Expect to feel a bit tired, and sleep as much as you need to. Your energy WILL return! I can promise you that. Also, call a help-line detox place for encouragement EACH DAY. They really encouraged me while I was scared going through this. I can honestly say that it wasnt even half as bad as i thought it would be:) I am back to feeling almost 100% normal now which is a MIRACLE! PRAY as well if you can and do something fun each day-even if it means just video games.lol Well, good luck and i hoped this helped.... remember-POSITIVE THOUGHTS!
