The amount of glucose in the blood will be measured at the same time the sample is taken. When I did a fasting test, they collected glucose and then gave me to drink glucose to see how I will react. Then I had to do another test to check again. There are other methods to check for glucose levels. They can take glucose anytime with no preparation or they can take it after a meal. If levels are between 70 and 99 mg/dL-then glucose is normal Over 99 until 125 is called prediabetic and over 125 is diabetes. These measurements are related to fasting tests.
