This could be serious.
When working up toward orgasm, the blood pressure climbs.
If you have an infection in a sinus, or similar iritation in the lining of the head, from pollen alergies or otherwise, the head can pound during sex.
Obviously, if it pounds every time you have sex, you're going to be "put off your game" and eventually will avoid sex to avoid the throbing head.
Have you tried iboprofen? An asperin or similar headache medicine?
You don't say WHERE it hurts, but it seems like it's blood pressure related.
Are you on blood pressure medication? What is your age?
You can try being more passive during sex, but climbing blood pressure is hard to avoid as you approach orgasm.
You originally posted more than a year ago. If it has not resolved by now, you definitely need to see a health professional. If it happens every year at the same time, it's probably allergy/ hay fever related.
You're not alone with this complaint. I know two others who experienced it, as well as myself. The back of my head felt it would explode, each weekend for three weekends. I immediately cut back on my sodium intake, eliminating high sodium chips and other salty snacks.
I'm also on blood pressure meds now. I'm not saying that you'll need all this. Just that you might cut back on cafinated drinks and the salty snacks.
Good luck, and write in to tell us what happened?

I had the same problem - pounding, almost blinding headaches as ejaculation approached.
turned out for me i had a brain tumour and fluid build-up causing increased pressure in my head.
that might be shocking, but i don't want to scare you, just to make sure you don't ignore this and you get your doctor to take it seriously too.
it hopefully won't be anything anywhere near as serious for you - but get it checked out.
(any other symptoms? headaches at a particular time of day? visual disturbance? hearing 'rushing' sounds?)

What you're describing could be as simple as a sinus headache, or inflamed sinus cavities due to allergies or a pollen attack.
Right now in the USA, grass pollen is the highest, but it could be different in your area.
Before jumping to the conclusion that this is a function of sex or masturbating, perhaps you might consider taking a sinus drainage or congestion tablet and see if that doesn't improve things.
Another way to attempt to deal with this might be to stand in a hot steamy shower for ten minutes or so, and see if that doesn't loosen up or drain your sinus before experiencing masturbation. Might be a simple experiment to not only relax you, but also cheaper than buying some medicine...at first... but perhaps you'll need that medication if this confirms that it's sinusitis. (sp?)

I have been having sex for 15 years - no headaches ever until the past three days. It is only when I am about to reach climax and the headache is so bad, I want to grab my head and scream. It is in the very back from spine to middle of back of my head. I have NEVER experienced a headache such as this. It is only happening when I am just about to reach orgasm and during.... Then it lasts for about 30 minutes to an hour... It is bad enough to make me rethink having sex again...... I am making an appointment tomorrow. I will repost when and if I find out anything......

I had this happening alot about six months ago, The solution was to relax more during sex, It seems to be quite common and isnt life threatening, Your tense with a pounding heart during the act. Even thou it doesnt seem like it, it eventually will go away. I found laying down and relaxing during sex helped alot. Also a small break can help things settle as well (tough as it may seem).Try massaging your neck and shoulders. Squeezing the back my neck during the pain help reduce blood flow and reduced the pain. How bad was the pain when it happened? 20 on a scale of 10--that bad...

Hey guys, I was looking up solutions to this problem as this has been happening to me the past 2 weeks. I have been researching all day and I've found that the results may vary for different people. "I have a headache" Jokes aside, this problems happens three times more in men than it does woman. Most commonly its just something that happens. One of those mysterious things that god lets happen. From other post in this forum and my research today, this problem should not be ignored. As tom1977 was kind enough to share he found that he had a brain tumor and fluid build up.

Most patients seeking treatment reported explosive and very severe headaches starting around the time of orgasm, but some had dull headaches in which the pain increased more gradually. Roughly half of the patients said they were able to lessen the severity of the headaches by slowing down the period of sexual excitement
The researchers concluded that these types of headaches occur in men between the ages of 20 and 25 and again in men between the ages of 35 and 45. Frese and colleagues reported their findings this week at the European Federation of Neurological Societies congress in Vienna, Austria....."
"The good news is that there are treatments available, and they work," says Diamond, who is associate director of the Diamond Headache Clinic in Chicago. "You don't have to swear off sex."
All in All, you may not have a severe condition like tom1977 but it does need to be looked at whether its something severe or not. So like cancer it can have a definite treatment. Research is everything.
