I'm here in west Michigan with the same symptoms: pounding headache, nausea, extreme fatigue/tiredness, loss of appetite, sore neck. No fever, no sorethroat, no mucus or expectoration of any kind. I had it the same virus 2 weeks ago, for 3 days. Horrible. I know quite a few people from work and related that have had this, or are currently dealing with it. Now I just started feeling it again today. And on top of all that I'm pregnant, so I'm limited in terms of meds to take, but have been doing lots and lots of water and sleep (whenever possible). Good luck to all. This too shall pass.

Has anyone been able to have a doctor pinpoint what time virius is? two Thursday ago i came down with the most horrible migraine and headaches. i had a feeling something wasn't right because the pain would just come on all of of sudden, the worst pain ever, and nothing i took would make it go away. I went for about week going back and forth between severe headache and regular headaches. Last saturday I developed a sore through, then a head cold, and then cough. Im feeling bettwer but i still have that persistent dull pain in the back of the head. I went to the E.R. and neurologist last week and they just think its a migraine, but i knew from the get go something else was going on because of how the migraine hit. im glad to know i am not alone or going crazy. how long before you guys felt completely normal? Any helpful hints to speed up the process?

I believe the headache virus is back in full form. I visited my son on Mother's Day and my grandson was in bed from a headache. I went to work this morning and had a huge, I thought, a migraine headache. As the hours went on the headache was still there and then got nauseated and disoriented due to the pain in my head. I called my daughter-in-law and she said that the grandson was fine in 1 day. Let's hope this is good news for all of us.

I had this about a month ago, it started up one morning where I was in so much pain I couldn't get out of bed or open my eyes,
so I went back to sleep hoping for it to pass, it didn't and I suffer from low blood sugar besides, so I had to get up and eat, which didn't help. The headache continually got worse to the point where I struggled keeping my right eye open. That same morning I got so sick from the headache I was throwing up, naucious, and dizzy.
I thought it was a cold virus and would pass, but it lasted for 3 weeks, I never had any cold symptoms whatsoever, except running an
occasional fever now and then. There was no certain time of day it would strike, it was at random and would destroy my days out having fun. The headaches eventually got to the point of pain where I couldn't touch the right side of my head without a lot of pain.
This virus doesn't seem to be picky about age, as I've read in other posts, it strikes anyone of any age. I am 25 and it got me bad.
The only thing that seemed to relieve my pain was heavy doses of 200mg or more ibuprofen or excedrin migraine and closing my eyes and doing nothing, even when the pain was gone, I could still feel like it was still there silently in my head somewhere, causing me nauciousness and dizziness.
I wish they would find out what's causing this and find a cure for it, it's very painful and I don't wish this on anyone ever.

I just had it too. And as I make comments I have found 2 more people that had it in the last 2 weeks. Symptoms: extreme tiredness, body aches, one day intense headache (inside mid of head) and in neck , neck actually felt stiff as I was waking up and from then headache continued all day. Afte that the tiredness was intense and needed lots of sleep, felt unable to get up even to go to class for the first time in my life. Found myself sleeping and run down many more hours of day and incredibly hard to wake up in the mornings; for like 3-4 days (specially 2 days); now it is easing up some. One day extremely sudden swelling of my left throat, felt lke a huge tonsil inside, nothing visible; went immediately and gargled multiple times with the only thing I had in my purse 'rosemary oil' and water; subsided in 10 minutes and stopped 1 hr after that. (stop your sore throat quick, my friend that had the same actually developed plaques on her throat, and a week later a bronchial cough that she still has). No fever, even though I keep feeling very hot and actually sweat as I sleep these tired naps. No nasal symptoms or discharge. But taking my temperature I am afebrile.
Has anybody gotten a diagnosis or testing for this?

The only similar symptoms I find on the web as I look are to west nile virus and the cdc site on west nile virus).

This seems to be a virus that has been happening for a while.I have been in pain from the headaches I've had every day since Tuesday.Today is saturday and they start off almost gone in the morning and as the day goes on the pain gets more intense and my neck hurts more. OTC meds only help slightly. This all started with my grandkids getting a virus last friday with a couple of days vomiting and diarrea. they are too young to say if they had headaches but they seem fine now. Does anyone know how long this should last with the headaches? are there others dealing with this kind of virus?

I also have the headache, however unlike anyone else on this list I've had the headache, etc for almost six weeks! I've had a CT scan and the results came in that I have ceberal atrophy. I'm seeing a nurologist next week. I can't think clearly, am getting depressed and don't want to do anything!

I have this same thing right now. I have been bed ridden for a week and a half. Today is the first day I have been able to go for more than 4 hours without taking Panadiene Forte (Paracetmol+codene). My head is still heavy and my eyes hurt to move and I feel extremely week and tired. I have an inflamed gland on the right side of my neck. I went to the hospital 3 days ago and was cleared for meningitis after a lumbar puncture. The doctors can only tell me it's a severe virus but have no name. Very frustrating to have a nameless disease!! The headaches are like nothing I have ever experienced with extreme throbbing pain that doesn't go away. Fevers on and off for 5 days straight. Also in the last 2 days I have started having difficulty urinating. If anyone ever discovers what the heck this is, please enlighten us!

My symptoms are similar to others' in this thread. I started with a headache that grew worse and worse over the course of day 1. Pain mostly in the front and middle/top of head. Early on day 2, it waned to being about 20% of what it was, maybe in response to Advil. Evening of Day 2 it got very intense, like about 80% of the worst ice cream headache you've had, but never quitting. Also experiencing some bouts of dizziness. Advil and Tylenol would reduce the pain only about 10 or 20%. This continued early into day 3, upon which time I took myself to the emergency room. They gave me something akin to Ibuprophen intraveinously, but it had little effect. Head CAT scans, torso X-rays, blood and urine showed nothing abnormal. Doctor's daignosis was some kind of virus and the only thing to do was tough it out. Headache persisted day 3, but down from its peak intensity. I followed up with my family doctor the morning of day 4. His diagnosis was it may be a migraine, but I have never had a migraine and do not exhibit the common symptoms of migraine; I am not sensitive to light or sound, and have had no visual oddities. He perscibed Fiorinol with Codeine for pain, which helps a lot but does not completely eliminate the pain. I felt well enough, but still nowhere near normal, to go to work on day 5. Same on day 6, but started having more frequent dizzy spells, and beginning that afternoon my legs started tingling. Woke up day 7 (today) with similar level headache to days 4, 5 and 6, plus persistent dizziness and mild leg aches. Brand new symptom of day 7 is sensation of needing to urinate. However, I couldn't on first try of the morning, and was able to urinate maybe an ounce or two about a half hour later. I still feel like I need to urinate, but virtually can't.

This thing is kicking my butt and making life pretty unpleasant. I'm not very productive, and I cannot even think of exercising, which normally I do 4 days a week (CrossFit).

I had all these symptoms you describe and today found out i tested positive for glandular fever

i had a funny turn last tuesday and left work 10.30am and went straight to bed - woke up at 1pm and was violently sick with the worst pain in my head - imobalized me. Ambulance took me to a&e and they treated me for meningitis - had a lumber puncture etc and everything come back as normal - so on Wednesday they discharged me saying that i could have had a virus and to take pain killers. Pain in my head was awful so on Fri went to my GP and they said i was suffering from migraine and gave me migraleve. The pain didnt go and i keep feeling really weird, like im not quite with it, so i went back to a&e on Sunday and they tested me againg, said it culd be a Tension headache and gave me tramadol and co-codemol. I have no appitite and lack concentration. Cocodamol helping with the pain but keep feeling sick. Now its Monday, i cant go into work yet as still feel rough. Looks like no-one has the answer as to the cause of all this. Very strange.

I had this headache for two and half weeks and I am still on antibiotics. People were saying I was faking it because I said it felt like and Elephant was sitting on my head. I couldn't go to work my head and neck felt so heavy and like a 10 tonne weight was rattling around inside. I was put on 3 different medications, taken to A&E and nothing happened. Finally I went away for the weekend to the coast and I walked alot as being in a care was excrutiating, especially over speed bumps. On the day we came home I felt refreshed. Gradually over a few days the pain started to ease and I felt a little better. However my husband now has the same symptoms and I am not joking with you he never gets ill. If this is a virus it is a bad one and Dr's need to do something more than telling people to take pain relief. Trust me pain relief has always worked for me but this time it only seemed to make it worse. I was told it was an injury to my head, then it was sinusitis, then it was an infection. It is scary having this type of pain and I hate seeing my husband go through it. I suggest if anyone has the pain for more the 3 days, go to the Dr, if they don't help go to hospital and during this make sure you drink. And my wonder treatment, the one thing that helped me was the cold migraine patches and massages.

Mel 26 from Australia, its the 13th day with an extreme headache, assumed I had pulled my back
and a nerve was damaged throughout a 9week stint with a personal trainer so i started seeing a chiropractor,
he said the headaches are unrelated to my back pain and suggested i get my eyes tested,
I got my eyes tested, perfect vision. i told her my symptoms, headache 24hours a day, tired,
either really hungry or no appetite at all, severe neck pain and lower back and nausia,
she suggested that i was pregnant. had 3 pregnancy tests, no baby. i saw the doctor today,
he said i have a virus in my brain. he said my immune system is and was down and i developed a virus.
has anyone else been told what caused it? thanks, Mel

Yes this is something that seems to be going around. there are several Students and faculty at the Ohio University that has it in Ironton.Ohio I also got it and sadly passed it to my mom. I fear it is contagious but only in the first week of it. No one seems to know the cause but it is sure to be a virus.
