Hello!  I developed preclampsia at 34 weeks.   My son was born at 38 1/2 weeks.  I was on strict bed rest for the last month of my pregnancy.   My blood pressure was very high during the end of my pregnancy.  I never had blood pressure issues before pregnancy.  My blood pressure actually was always low (117/70's).  I was put on blood pressure medication after delivering my son - before leaving the hospital.   I was always assured that my blood pressure would go back to normal after delivery.   My son is now 8 months old and I am still on blood pressure medication.   It is very frustrating!!!  I just want to go back to normal.   I am not sure what this means for any of my future pregnancies.  I am still waiting for my blood pressure to regulate - if it ever will!?!?!

Hi it can last up to 2 months after birth it sounds like you had what is called HELLP which is a little more than pre ecclampsia because it affects with sometimes long lasting effects of the main organs from your kidneys to your liver to your heart.. so if your at home with these symtoms you should go to your dr and then push for a specialist.

Sometimes it never goes back to normal, i was 21 had my baby at 28 weeks through drs finding i had high bp at 6 months pregnant and they managed to delay delivery for a month, I am now 43 and am still on meds for this i am also having another baby and am 18 weeks now after a 23 yr break from my youngest, soo im saying if you live healthy exercise good food lots of water, mentally strong, you can live a long healthy life with BP it is not a death sentence, enjoy and dont worry so much it adds to BP take care ladies....also use google to get factual info around bp, sometimes DR GOOGLE can do your head in rather than relax it.

Hi, thanks for your post. I was doing an internet search for the exact thing you were doing, to see if I was normal..I am now 8 months out and still experience spikes in my blood pressure. It's so frustrating and very hard to try to explain how I feel to other people. I am glad to know I am not the only one.

There is a certain percentage of females that continue to develop chronic hypertension after delivery. This risk is highest in females who suffered from Gestational Hypertension, Pre-eclampsia or eclampsia during pregnancy. If you continue to have elevated blood pressures about 6-8 weeks following delivery, you should see your physician regarding the possibility of having progressed to develop chronic hypertension.

I delivered a healthy baby girl in Sep 2015. I developed high blood pressure from the 4th month of pregnancy and i was on Alpha Dopa 250 mg, 1 tablet a day. My BP was quite normal after the medication throughout my pregnancy. My BP was normal till the time of discharge from hospital after c-section delivery. But from 5th day after delivery, my BP started shooting up and reached 180/90 at one point of time. I was taking 4 tablets of Alpha Dopa for some days and my dose was lowered to 1 tablet a day after a week. My gynac asked me to stop BP medication after 6 weeks. Then my BP was quite normal for next 3 months. Then it again shoot up 6 months after delivery and it was around 155/87. I consulted my Gynac again. He didn't prescribe any medication but asked me loose weight and control my BP through lifestyle changes. I am following healthy diet and go for walks daily but still my BP is not normal yet. I feel depressed because of my BP issue. One day it even spiked upto 167/86. As i am not on medication, i get worried when it spikes. Can anybody advise when it will normalise? Or how much time it takes for BP to normalise after delivery?

I have never taken birth control in my life and I developed postpartum preeclampsia. I was healthy my whole pregnancy and within 2 days of being out of the hospital I had a blood pressure check at Ob. That's where they caught the high blood pressure. It was ridiculously high. (And I have never had high blood pressure in my life) I'm starting to think a lot of women's stories say "I had a csection" I had to have an emergency csection. I'm curious to see if someone had a straight up vaginal birth and got postpartum preeclampsia. My story goes much more in depth but it's upsetting to recount it. They also put me on pitocin when I was already in active labor which spiked my blood pressure then they had to counter act that which made my pressure go really low. They put me on oxygen. They also broke my water and left me there over 24 hours. :| I think they created more problems for me rather than made it better. Total billed $76,000 something. Sounds like a business at its best.
