I feel your pain with getting a descent doctor, I am in DC area and thought with all the big names here it would be a great place to find a doctor for my conditions.... most of my experiences have been like yours. You are very smart to have cancelled with that doctor. I am in the same boat as you,,, I have dealt with fissures, hemorroids and constipation literally since I was born.
Have seen many GI doctors because my intestines do not work properly which adds to the problems. Have not found a descent one yet that cares. So I am very glad you vented, it is nice I am not alone in my experiences. I hope you find a great one soon and get out of pain.

From London this is ruining my life. If im lucky after bm ill have an hour of discomfort and walking awkwardly, the next best thing is intense discomfort and tolerable pain that last for 4-9 hours , worse case scenario and becoming more frequent at least 24 hours and sometimes up to 3 weeks of extreme discomfort and excruciating pain, unable to move or walk. The worse part is no one knows, i dissapear and peoplr wonder or when they see me i become extremely grouchy and irritable.

I hope to get the halo surgery soon.

I have very nasty hemorroids and when try to poop, the grapes swell up so bad and block my poop from coming out. I have been pooping tiny bits or none for the past few days. Just now I went to poop but can't, it's so painful I wanted to cry out and just let me die!! Please let me me know if your problems has gone and what did you do about it? Thanks

You have got to poop! Your colon will continue to draw out water from the stool until you do.

I just had a baby and had a really difficult time with the first poops. Here are the things that helped:

* take some Advil or Tylenol to help with the pain
* take ducosate stool softener twice a day
* take psyllium husks (like Metamucil, which is flavored, or plain with one whole glass of orange juice)
* drink 2 cups of water
* take a dose of milk of magnesia.
* make sure every meal has 100% whole wheat, or bran flakes, or a ton of cooked spinach or kale or chard
* when you fee the urge, drink 2 glasses of water. Sit on the toilet and bend your torso over your thighs. Your chest is practically against your knees. I brought in a TV dinner fold-out table to lean on. This straightens out the kink in your rectum and lets the poop come out in a straight log. It's the same as the squatty potty position.
* don't push very hard. Just push a little, and focus on relaxing your anus so that you don't try to pinch. Push a little out, and focus on staying relaxed so that it doesn't go back in. Breathe deeply and lean on the table and relax until you've pushed it all out. Because you're not pinching, and you're bent over, it will come out like a giant log.
* have a blunt knife ready to chop up the poop before you flush.

This worked for me. Hope it helps someone! It took about 3 weeks for all the hemorrhoids from the birth to recede into my anus. Some hemorrhoids still come out with each bm, but once I wipe and do a sitz bath, they go back in again after an hour.

Boston Girl: Thanks for sharing! Right at this moment, I have the same problem, I feel like I have to poop, have huge hemorrhoids and can't sh*t! I took some laxatives last night and they didn't move my bowels at all. I'm scared to death and don't know if I should go to hospital or not. I am on a lot of medications also and recently, two more were added to my "drug store" as I have my second case of shingles. What a pain in the butt!!! Bloomington, MN (Katie0

I am having that problem right now! Awful Miralax works but tried other things when I didn't have it now it hurts too much to push it out so hopefully this suppository will work! I know it's all my meds and stress causing this and a weight loss of 83 pounds in a year and a half!

You're very empathetic...refreshing to have real info. Working mom to a two and a half and one and a half year old, so no time for surgery. Any suggestions for alternatives?

Was wondering if you ever had the surgery? I started looking into this a lot more recently. I have noticed that certain foods I eat make it worse. Everything I have been reading says a lot about constapation I however do not have that problem in the least little bit. If I fart they start. I have had these now for 17 years. After the birth of my last child. In the last past 4 maybe 5 years it has gotten worse and it just keeps getting worse. I very rarely have hard stools. It is more the soft ones. Or a medium one followed by diarrhea. Any idea of foods that will help some?

I take 1-2 grams of flax oil every day because I have this problem too. Ever since I was a kid. If I skip one day, I can't go. Water doesn't help. Eating milk and cheese makes it worse! And taking an opiate painkiller and/or having surgery is a nightmare. I always load up on flax oil before surgery and never take my painkillers afterwards. I just think of the pain I'm going to have if I try to poop on top of ripping open any surgery. Doctors don't seem to take this seriously. Water doesn't help but lots of vegetables, fruit, and mono/poly oils do.

Hello Boston Girl,
I am truly sorry for your frustrating medical experiences. First of all, there should never be aggravation toward a patient, since the very premise that has lead them to the doctor is already an issue of stress and concern. I have been through these experiences many of times. Out of the handfuls of doctors I have seen over the past 40 years, I would say that a mere 10% of them had respectful bedside manner.....in which it is my opinion should be tied in importance to actual knowledge.
I am not sure if you have done your research, but the entire medical practice is under the thumb of and ran by the insurance companies and the laws that lobby behind them. I am going through similar issues, along with many others, due to a recently diagnosis of lupus. Everything is answered with a "take this drug", and if I reject further use of said drug, usually due to it not, and or the key ingredients being very harmful to my body, the practitioners is that of aggravation.
I has lately come to realize that most Primary care physicians have a very broad but limited in depth knowledge base of most issues....besides which drugs to prescribe. Then we are passed to a specialist, whom may or may not be paying enough attention to your bodies big picture, and may not have that kind of knowledge. There are so many broken points to out healthcare, it is hard to know where to begin, and what to avoid. But it does seem to me that this ever growing manner in separating specialists is adding a whole new layer of struggle for patients. Not one of my specialists is willing to listen to me, nor do they want to look at the entire chart that encompasses the big picture. Not to say that this wouldn't be a lot of work to do so, which is always the excuse....but then how are we supposed to get quality healthcare.
To the poles, articles, news captions, studies, etc etc.....that claim such things as that we, the US, have one of the best healthcare infrastructures in the world, I would advise the readers of such information to weigh in their own experiences, and not to be swayed by what large scale media portrays. I have lived all over the world, and can honestly say first hand, that our medical practices are by far on the low end of behaviors.
I wish I had more to tell you that was positive, but the truth is that I do not. You are right....there are far to many doctors whom should not even be as such. And how do we rate them. The trouble seems to be from the beginning, where anybody with the ability to read, and take tests, can take on what is in my opinion one of the most important roles one can accept as a career.
And now, at least where I live, every single holistic practitioner has not only doubled their rates, but now deny all insurances. It's a sad day for human kind. There isn't really much to say other then we have made money our god. The funny thing is that it is mostly all a game of luck....what you were born into, be it be the financial aspects, or the DNA that was passed onto you. We love to try and make sense of why things happen by means of gods, karma, and so on....but the truth is that so much of this adventure comes down to luck...and then how we react. But thats the thing, how are we supposed to continually react to this behavior. Smile, say okay, and move on....even when moving on hurts. Or do we find some way to revolt, speak up, fight back? I do not know anymore. I do not even know where to begin. The problems are evident....but it's the solutions that seem so unreachable. Sorry, I know I am way off topic, and have literally offered no help....it simply came out of me. I do however wish you the best on your journey. And if you and or anyone else has advise on how to navigate this crapshoot, please let me know.
Good luck Boston girl, Nicky
