My mom has a kidney infection caused by a kidney stone. They put a stent in her back, yes in her BACK, to drain the infection and to take pressure off her kidney.

She is now curious on how they are going to take the stent out. Will they have to stitch the hole in the kidney caused from the stent closed? Are any stitches required? Her doctor doesn't answer any of her questions and when we looked on the internet the only ones were about the stent up through the urethra, we haven't found anything about stents inserted from the back.

If anyone can answer this I would be most thankful.

That's unfortunate that your mother's doctor is not answering any questions. I know that if he would, it would put your mind at ease a little. Yes, for a stent, the best I would imagine they could do is remove the stent surgically just like how they put it in. I think that only a stitch or two would be required since stents are usually small. I think your best bet would be to press your doctor, or at least ask for a consult with the surgeon so that you know what to expect. It's your health, after all! Let us know how it goes.
