I've noticed that a lot of people here on the forums kick back in different ways. I've noticed that over in the fitness forums that people like to exercise, that in the diet forums people like to eat, and that in the drug forums people like to smoke up XD The thing is, I have never been that good at unwinding! I'd like to know what you guys do when you want to kick back! Usually I just sit around and watch TV, but that doesn't help. What do you do?

I exercise to unwind. The more stressed I was, the more intense I would exercise. I also receive 1 hour massage therapy once a week.

Massage therapy! That's a really good idea for unwinding. I don't think I could really afford that though! What else do you do? How long do you typically work out for?

I just plop down with a cup of coffee and that's it. I'm to wound up to excercise, to aggrivated to do house work, to bitchy to work in the office, and way to touchy to hold any kind of a conversation with some poor sap who will undoubtedly get their unsuspecting heads snapped off.
Usually within an hour my stress passes and then i can move on to my next stresser, which could be anything at any given time %-)

Well I like to have juice and some snacks and watch a movie. This is really relaxing for me. And while watching the movie I don't think about anything else, no everyday problems, or what I need to do or have done wrong. Nothing. Just sit and enjoy.
Also the one thing that clears my mind and releases me from stress is swimming. Just to be in the water and to swim freely is very enjoyable. But I don't think I do this as much as need to. I don't have a pool near my apartment so it is not just to do thing. :-)

What I do when I need to unwind is put my iPod on, grab a good book and dim the lights a little bit.
Maybe you could try that .. All I know is that it works for me most of the time. If it doesn't SWIM takes Xanax Bars. :-D

If you ask me, movies and music is number one way to unwind. You can relax real good if you want to. The best thing it is available almost anywhere.
What other way is most used to unwind?

It does depend on the music and movies though! Sometimes when I've had a stressful day the last thing I want to do is listen to something new or unpleasant so I usually put on some favorite artist instead. I guess this is consistent with your point but yeah, I don't like to listen to a new artist.

Well, geezers like me need to remain active. If I sit for a day like watching NASCAR on TV, I pay for it the next day. It hurts to move.

The most refreshing thing I do these days, both physically and mentally is spending a day with the other geezers playing on the tracks with our rail cars.

We have about 20 miles of track the state lets us use whenever we want and we have to do some type of work to maintain it every time we go out. There is one section where it's a contest between us and the beavers to keep them from flooding a pond over the tracks and damaging the railbed. We never leave home without a chainsaw. You wouldn't believe how often a tree falls across the tracks.

It gets me away from the stress of everyday life and by the end of the day I'm physically tired so I get a good night's sleep.

I went to my 50th HS class reunion in 2007 and I couldn't believe the old people who were there. I know that's a popular joke but I was surprised to see how old so many of them really were. I doubt if 10 percent of them would be physically able to go out and do the things I do for fun. Too many of them looked like they'd be lucky to get out of bed the next day.

You gotta keep movin or you sieze up.

It's true that a rolling stone gathers no moss. I was thinking about taking up tennis this summer but it was too darn hot out. Does anyone have any ideas for good indoor sports? I'd like to try something I can play all year long.
