We just had our kitchen redrywalled with greenboard. The contractors are coming back today to sand it down. We (I) have to paint it, as we (her) didn't decide which color to paint it yet. How long do I need to wait before I put primer on it. How many coats do I need, and do I need to buy a specific type of primer.
note to rtpd: they replaced the whole side of the wall where the crack was and put new stuff around the window, to give you an idea of the amount of drywall that they put up

If they sand it down today you can primer it tomorrow. Wipe it down good with a damp towel when they leave to get all the sanding residue off. Two coats max on the primer, might be able to get away with one coat. I don't know if there are specific primers for greenboard vs. regular drywall - I used standard latex based primer when I did the bathroom several years ago and it worked fine.

drywall primer, one gallon should do.
Two coats of primer. The drywall will suck up the primer.
Two coats of paint.
If you need a dry wall sander pole, let me know, I have one, and plenty of sandpaper for it.

How about paint. Any special type of paint?depending on what you want. Flat or Latex, I would go with the latex where that section is.

How's it coming? I didn't see this til today, but two coats definitely because the drywall sucks primer like there's no tomorrow. Mine wasn't primered right when I moved in and painting was a real beeyotch, even with supposedly "one coat" paint.
What color did you (she) decide on? I hope you went with a latex, preferably a semi, if it's kitchen. Much easier to clean!

The contractors still aren't done sanding it down. They should finish up on Tuesday. I was hoping to at least get some priming done this weekend. Maybe this coming weekend.
Its a real nice improvement from what it was.

I think the only time a "dude" can say Satin, is in the paint store. Nice compromise between the overly shiny semi-gloss and the dull flat.
