I tried to post a question already so sorry if there is two. I have been on suboxone for about a year and it has really saved my life. I was taking 15-20 10mg lorcets a day for about 4 years, and using lightly for 2 years before that. I am just curious as to how long other people have been taking suboxone because I dont feel that I am anywhere near ready to get off. However my doctor is trying to ween me off and he says that people usually only take it for a year. Is this correct? I just feel that I will go back to using if I get off of the suboxone now. It doesnt make me high, I just feel normal like I did before I started taking drugs. I am worried that he is going to take me off too soon, because every time I try to tell him Im not ready, he just says well you have to get off sometime, why not now. Does anyone have any advice on what I should do or how I should talk to him? Should I try to find another doctor? And do people stay on suboxone for more than a year? Thanks

I,ve been on suboxone for a couple of years now 8mg.
I had a good doctor not so long ago and he told me not to worry about the time I'm on it.
He told me that once I,m working and my life is stable, Then would be the best time to jump off as without change, routine etc.
I would end up back where I started, I,m not using heroin any more but I have a problem with speed.
Funny That! As when I used Heroin, I did,nt really like speed.
Sorry, but thinking about the way I,m going I should'nt be giving advise... But Hey!!! GOOD LUCK!!! ;-)

Find a new doctor ASAP!! I have been on suboxone now for about 5 years and without it I wouldn't have the privaledge of knowing and living a sober life , nor would my kids have what they deserve in a mother that they have today!! I have tried coming off of suboxone twice now and actually stayed sober without relapse but let me tell u a miserable 6 months for not only myself but any and everyone around me too!! I never felt good or normal was more tired than I have ever been in my life and was so so so so so depressed !!! My doctor said that suboxone to me was like insulin is to a diabetic and the medication that keeps me well and from being sick and something I would take for rest of my life !! U need to ask the people that tell u differently if they are addicts ? If answer is "no" than just do yourself a favor and turn off your ears!!

I have been on Suboxone for nearly 2 years. My doctor is starting to wean me down. My problem is that it actually solves my pain problem and I don't want to get near any other narcotics. I will end-up killing myself from my pain and the depression it throws me into. I have heard of people on Suboxone for 3 years. The manufacturer says there is no reason to take me off of it because it is such a "lifesaver" for me, even though it isn't labeled for pain. It works on mine. A little-known fact is that any doctor with the letter "x" in his prescription number is allowed to prescribe Suboxone for whatever reason.
