I'm going through the switch as I type. Make sure he is at least in moderate withdrawal before he starts unless you can secure some extra subixone. If you have a few days worth of sub he can take it right away but know that be will probably go into precipitated withdrawal,. Not cool, think day 5 of a cold turkey methadone detox. But if he has lots he can keep taking the sub and it will overcome the heroin. If he is just on a doctor prescribed dose and has to go everyday, then definitely wait until moderate to severe withdrawal symptoms and you'll have to push through the switch. When my legs go that's usually my sign of going into severe withdrawal. I would also get a 24hr pharmacy so you can go right at midnight for the next days dose. As Drs just don't understand withdrawal they prob start him at 4 mg and then go up by two mgs every hr until you reach sanity. As an addict he,'ll naturally want to be on the highest dose possible.i did. Remember though this is just a switch. Take credit for making a step in the right direction but it's really just a trade off so the lower the dose you can get away with the better, because we have to get off the sub at some point to to be truly free. This for now will let you get your life back though. Methadone helped me for 3 years but then we got carries and started abusing it, 9 years later here I am making the switch to sub because it's easier to get off of apparently.we,'ll see. Your life on sub is gonna be what he makes it. He's got no shield now and there's no high. We're used to having a crutch or bein outta it. Now we have to deal with the world head on with no shield or comfort. Who knows how long til he feels normal. I'm thinking a couple weeks as I am wondering the same thing. I miss my best friend. The romance is over and now I gotta be straight and I'm sad happy angry all in the matter of an hour so tell him keep his eyes on the prize. There's a reason has doin this. Either for someone else or himself and hopefully it's more important than then the dope. Hang in there and it's gotta get better. It can't get any worse. I think.good luck guys.

You stay on methadone and start Suboxone at .05 mg and then one week later your doctor will up it a bit all while you're still on methadone, Once you've reached your peak dose of Suboxone, you can stop taking the methadone because you won't need it or want it. There is zero withdrawals. If your doctor either doesn't want to do it that way or hasn't heard of it, tell him you want to do it slowly so you have zero withdrawals.

I truly think getting off suboxene is the worse he'll l have ever been through. I only took it for one month. My anxiety was so severe, l just couldn't take it. I am only in the 9th day of withdrawing from this med. It is worse than getting of of any opiate l have ever been on. I would never recommend suboxene, not to my worse enemy. My anxiety at day 9 is still out the roof.. I would rather get off opiates. I wasn't told how addictive this med is is, or l.wouldn't have taken it. And while on it, l just didn't feel normal, just so.tired and out of it all the time!!

I was on for one month as my doctor said it helps with pain. I wanted off, tapered it down for a week or so, and went through hell getting more of it. The anxiety was the worse.. I just wanted to die!!
