Quitting oxys is the hardest thing Ive ever done, but also the best. And anyone who has done the same would probably agree with me. I was addicted to oxys for years. When i first started doing them, i was only doing about 15-30 mg every few days. But by the end I was doing 300+ mg a day. And i had also started to snort them. I got help when I hit rock bottom, and was put on suboxone. But all the suboxone did was stall the time to the real withdraw and replaced one addiction with another. In the long run it wasn't worth it. When i was taken off the suboxone i started on oxys again and was back to square one. Another year had passed since i had been on the oxys. Then one day I said to myself "I cant be doing this forever", so it was time to quit. But I was also going through family problems so it helped a little with the motivation and reasons. And if i can quit cold turkey, anybody can! Especially if you have an addictive personality, cold turkey is gonna be your only way out. Because if you just try to slow down your dosage you will say "one more pill for one more day wont hurt". And you will end up saying that everyday. So quitting cold turkey, you are gonna be cramping, have cold/hot sweats, diarrhea maybe vomiting, trouble sleeping, and probably very grumpy. All the symptoms last for days on end. But the beginning is the hardest part, especially for the first couple days. And once your past that, its all downhill from there. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, and no its not a train my friend. Im gonna give a few guidelines to withdrawing.

RULE #1: AVOID BOREDOM! IT WILL BE YOUR WORSE ENEMY!

rule #2: avoid anyone who may still be using.

rule #3: use all your willpower for this and buckle down, its gonna be a bumpy ride!

A doctor who stops you cold turkey is no good doc. If it's your choice, that's different. I'm on 180 mg oxycodone a day plus just switched from 100 mg mscontin 2xa day to 50 mcg fentanyl patch. I'd love to quit, but no way will I as long as they keep the horrible pain at bay.

LMFAO 3-4 days COLD, You sir must've come off the weakest opiod at the lowest dose, w/d are more liek 30 days. With methadone anyways. So id imagine about 2-3 weeks for oxys sinces oxycodone is a much quicker acting and breaking down.

First Post.

I had ACDF (anterior cervical decompression and fusion in c5,6,&7).  The doc prescribed me oxy 10/325 2 every 4 hours.  Absolutely  killed the pain.  Now, 3 months later,  I'm pain free and hooked on oxy.  Was hooked I should say.  I'm 70 hours cold turkey.  I gave my wife the pills and she got rid of them.  No access is the only way I think to succeed.  The worst part for me is the burning / restless legs, and I sleep during the day and I'm up all night.  Thinking about adding Valium or Muscle relaxers to help with the sleep and burning legs.  Also prescribed Gabapentin (sp) but never took any.  Maybe they will help.  I think (hope) I'm past the worst of it and it will be easier every day.

I'm hoping someone can relate to my story...

Blues (oxys) for about a year (not pain related... all street purchased).  Started with 15mg a day, got up to 90mg daily.  Stopped taking them on 3/11/12 and began taking suboxene 4mg daily.  Five days ago, I took my last strip, and thought I'd be cured, only to find myself hurting extrodinarily.  My friend, who did literally the same thing as me (oxys for a year then subs last two weeks) says he feels great and has no physical symptoms.  So I don't get how on day five of NOTHING, I'm still feeling the withdrawl symptoms (the general discomfort you all speak of ((by far the worst of all the symptoms)), vomiting, can't sleep, cold sweats, achy, etc.)  I am starting to feel a little better, but am hoping this will all go away soon.  I've decided I'm never going to do any pain meds or suboxene ever again because it's simply not worth it.  Hoping to get my endorphins back up soon and just begin feeling normal and not dependent on that poison.

I know the hell you are facing... I am on day 6 of a cold turkey cessation to over a year and a half of 30mg oxycodone three times a day. The anxiety is probably the worst part of it so far for me. I am just soo freaking nervous and aggitated... I am also experiencing diarhea, sweats, terrible insomnia, shakes and severe restless legs. I have been taking a multi-vitamin with B-6 and magnesium supplements. Don't know if it helps any but since i have no appetite, it's a good idea. The first 3 or 4 days were pure hell..... I can not stress that enough. Day 5 i was better and today a tiny bit better still... From all accounts I can find on the net, I hope to have it out of my system in a couple of more days. I did not consult my doc before doing this, which is probably not the best idea, but I know my body and I have the will to be done with these hellacious things once and for all....PLEASE... HANG IN THERE.. It gets better... You can not live on these pills... They will kill you as I thought they were doing to me.. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!

were you able to stay off? what did you use to control your chronic pain? I am 4 days off oxy for my chronic pain. second time I have done it but the last time the pain drove me back to the oxy. i have never taken more than 4x 10 oxy and usually only take 3x 5 but I hate it.. I start feeling like I am having withdrawal within a few hrs of taking it and know I need it again. And when I am sick I need more. I am taking ultram once a day and I take topimax which helps my neuropathy and pain also. My doctor seems to think I should be able to just take the oxy when I really need it....I dont think I can. I think that once I take one i will have wd again and need to take it again and again.

i have been on narcotic painkillers since a serious hand injury were they had to implant metal plates in my hand alot of them.well started with statex then moved on to pms hydro morphon(diluadid) it was takeing the pain away but i was stoned all day so dr. gave me oxycontin i think it toke about 10 months but by then i was dr. shopping and would wake up with a cocktail of painkillers and coffe.i have been prenounced dead twice i had to be revived.from alcohol and painkillers i fell great superman if you will now iam about 72 hrs.clean .not hungry nothing stays what i drink comes right out. i have been through worse withdrawls in the past i went to a different dr. trying to get more my willpower is not as strong as most of you all. now iam on supedol which is alot weaker and slowly cutting down on the mg daily and plenty of water, tea, beer whatever allows you to flush your system out.it is very serious and more addictive and allowed me to do many many stupid things.i have a refill this weekend i get nervous just thinking about it. because i will not lie i most likely will refill and start this whole process again.all i can say is try not to start and if you do take as needed ,not as wanted because in most cases once started there is no stoping.

after reading all of these blogs, yours has helped me the most. I really appreciate it.... I am on day 8, and today I felt cold sweats, but the restless legs syndrome finally subsided... insomnia was atrocious, but hoping tonight will be better. I went cold turkey after taking 165mg of OxyContin for 5 years, every day... thanks again for your story. I deeply appreciate it and hoping I can stay off the meds....

I can not emagine years of taking this horrible drug, I have had severe knee pain from a service related injury I had unlimited access to as much as I wanted. In six months I was up well over 240mg a day. Big mistake, 72+ hours cold turkey, doctor gave me tramadol and advil. I also take zanex on rare occasion for panick attacks, another one of the great things my beloved corp left me with. Two hours of sleep tonight and I awoke to find this tread, I see no one has posted in a while but, that's ok, maybe I'm more just writing for myself. It is so far beyond not worth it, really if we are going to use this stuff we might as well go and stand next to all the heroin addicts because that's what we were/are. This is just the governments way of making and selling the same poison. Of course it works better than anything but would would shooting up Im sure if you asked someone to goes Iv. The zanex is dangerous to by the way if you don't take it as prescribed, either way I'm a horse to all meds and always have been. I like to think I'm a tougher individual with things that have happened to me and things I have done. This is bad though never have I had to withdraw from anything, and the worst part is I can get more in the snap of a finger. Don't, don't, don't, take this garage and don't fool yourself either that just because a doctor gave it to you it is not what it really is, it is a dirvitive of heron, morphine, and any othe opiate based drug on the planet. I thought about going and getting more but I won't it is just not worth it, every reliable source I know says it's a 5-7 day ordeal and it's done the rest is psychological. I hope and pray anyone going through this gets through otherwise it becomes your life! I have several marine friends that sustained worse injuries then I and I can almost promise they are on it for ever, and they will never be the same. Good luck and god speed to all for a health and safe recovery from this 3cm monster. It will be over soon and life will be good again.
