Wow, something that I was never warned about before starting on a diet was the constant feeling of hunger that I am now experiencing! I never knew how much I relied on food to fill gaps: time, boredom, loneliness, whatever. I can only describe it as a constant feeling of hunger, though hunger is not exactly what it is, more a deep desire to eat. If I am to continue dieting, I need to lose this feeling. Can you help?

You are not alone. I know precisely what you are talking about. I have gone on perhaps half a dozen diets in my lifetime, and in the first week or two of taking part in a diet I have always gone through what you are going through now. If you were a drug addict, professionals would say that you were having withdrawal symptoms. I think that is exactly what it is. The good news is that withdrawal symptoms wear off, and you enter a new phase of your diet. When you get through that, things will be a lot easier. If you knit or crochet, you could perhaps take up a new project for keeping your hands busy when you are most vulnerable. If not, find something else to take your attention away from the cravings.
