My husband had his thyroid removed about 2 weeks ago now.  He had some complications with swelling and they had to go back in and clean him out.  Since then he's doing well in regards to the incision and all.

History for him: diagnosed with depression (maybe even bi polar) many years ago.  He had nodules on his thyroid that were getting quite large which is why they did a full removal.  This past week has been terribly hard for him depression wise.  My questions are will this eventually improve??  He's going for his first blood draw to get the thyroid medicine level checked on Friday,... I'm worried his depression meds aren't working now? I'm just at a loss as to what to do for him.  This past weekend was really really bad. 

Has anyone gone through something similar??? any suggestions??  I have him an appointment with a new psychiatrist as well.  I can't see him struggle like he did this weekend.
