My dad has it now for 5 weeks. Dentist, GP and ENT have no answers. Feels strings on his teeth, hairs on tongue. Pulling and picking at his mouth. Only relief is sleep and eating...He is 89 and is stressed lately about how his life is changing, his money, etc. He had his gallbladder out in April, then my mother came down with a condition Temporal Arteritis and she lost vision in one eye... then my sister stressed them out with a situation she was going through. I think it is anxiety... What ever happened with the situation with you guys here? Did it go away?? He is so upset about this...

İts cats . Basically cats are not suitable creatures to keep in a house . They dig around in rubbish tips and eat rodents .They get worms and fleas and their fine fur floats around in the air and gets in to the lungs along with all the nasty microbes they carry from rodents and rubbish tips . some people can handle that and they live with cats .Personally İ hate the creatures having had to live with four of them in a house share with some guy . Anyone who came to the house later complained of hair in their mouths .i had hair in my mouth and later a cough before İ left . So yeah . CATS

I don't have any cats in my house these days, but I've noticed getting this frustrating sensation now and then, lately. I think it tends to happen when I'm really tired and sleep-deprived (not every time I'm in that state, 'cause I'm bad about never going to bed when I should.

It's more than likely a side effect of the antibiotic. One thing that an antibiotic does is it destroys the bacteria that are making you sick or are infecting a part of your body. Unfortunately sometimes it also attacks the good bacteria in your mouth or GI tract. When this happens you can get a yeast infection or thrush. Thrush occurs in your mouth. Babies are not the only ones that can get this. Usually with thrush you will have white bumps on your tongue or the roof of your mouth. It may also cause small cracks at the corner of your mouth. You'll feel like you have cotton or hair in your mouth. You should rinse your mouth with warm salt water 2-3 times a day. Brush your teeth frequently. Another thing that can help is to eat some yogurt. There are enzymes in yogurt that can prevent thrush or yeast infections when taking an antibiotic. Look for a yogurt that is all natural or contains a probiotic. If it gets worse and these suggestions do not help call your doctor. He can check it and if it is thrush he will give you a mouth rinse to use that will get rid of it.

Today whilst smoking I could it in my throat and started to gag. It was terrible. It appears on the right side of my tongue!! Does anyone else's appear on the right?

Also, it's whenever I wear polyester, so I think I'm allergic to that too, and my cats are not with me at this time.

I'm having the same thing. It feels like it is on the tip of my tongue. I've tried flossing brushing, nothing helps. It is annoying. I hope someone responds. I haven't been on any antibiotics like some other posts have suggested or using any mouthwash. I keep trying to get it off and there is nothing there.

I'm having this same issue. I've brushed my tongue, scraped it, gargled, eaten crackers hoping it would carry it down since I can't bring it forward. I just can't believe it's a hair. Surely it would have been eliminated by now. It's been going on intermittantly for a month now.

My mouth feels like a fur ball or full of cotton. It is not dry and the actual throat is fine. I am on no medication and my lifestyle has not changed except increased stress over the last 3 months. I have a dog but no cats. Unlikely to be an allergy.

It is driving me crazy but my main concern is cancer. Hoping it's not. I go to doctors in a couple of weeks so will get her to check it out and post results back here.

I will try gargling saltwater and see if that helps.

gingivitis can turn into periodontal disease, infection in gums releases pus, immune system will go haywire makes everything act up...go to a periodontist....or have your doctor take a look at your gums to see if swollen infected...it's amazing what dental probs do to your overall health and all the weird sensations or probs it causes. Just went through a lot of dental on top of having osterarthritis, fibromyolgia and seasonal allergy, back probs....try to go more herbal (Chinese herbs are great,i do tintures instead of pills) it's not overnight but longevity after maintained and not having side effects are awesome. Find out your symptoms from primary (explain them to an herbalist)or maybe just a second opinion (not too costly, or can go to a local dental school to inquire from one of the teachers) from a periodontist. gum disease can affect your throat glands (possible cause of thyroid and many things...for your gums use sensydyne toothpaste (really helps with pain and better gum health), lysterine (white bottle),floss, soft toothbrush on gums (massage) and warm salt water will help with pain swishing/spit , take vit c at least once a day. half water/half hydrogen perioxide rinses help if cant afford mouthrinse.......I was amazed by what I learned going through the nightmare of dental of the importance of all our health probs that can be push when have oral problems...trust me. Apparently oral plaque is not our friend or our other ailments we have to deal with as it leads to gum disease and infection slowly draining into our blood systems...quite possibly what makes other things flare up as well as heart implications that it can affect. Hope this helps you on road to recovery.

I to have the same problem, I finally went to the mayo clinic for it. If you have some burning in your mouth with it then it is called burning mouth syndrome and there is no cure for it. It may come and go, but will be with you forever. sometimes I can pull what looks like a fine hair out of my mouth that is over a foot long. Skin inside mouth also peels a lot. Check with a good Dermatologist. MENTION THIS SYNDROME BECAUSE MOST HAVE NO CLUE WHAT IT IS. You are paying your Dr. make him do some research. It is not an allergy.
