I had just recently been sick. Actually, I am just today starting to feel better. I had the chills, a headache, and dizziness. That is all gone now, I broke my fever, and all I have left is a sore throat. I was trying to look in my throat to see if I had strep, but it doesn't look like anything's swollen. However, I did notice these red bumps on the back of my tongue I've never seen before. After doing some research, it seems like all I have is circumvallate papillae. Should I check with the doctor, since my throat is still sore? Or is it just a mixture of having circumvallate papillae WITH a common sore throat?

This looks like enlarged circumvallate papillae. I am experiencing the same thing as of Saturday moring. I woke up and then drank from a bottle of water and it felt like there were shards of something in the back of my tongue. I thought I had swallowed something that was in the water. It didn't hurt, it was just discomforting. After the reading I have been doing, I think it is the mouthwash I recently started using. The night before, I used some for the first time in a few weeks. People on other posts have suggested taking probiotics. This would only be the solution if your problem is being caused by taking antibiotics or acid reflux. If it is due to mouthwash, it will probably just take time to heal on its own. Don't rush to the doctor, just maybe check next time you are there or at the dentist even. Try to keep your mouth clean something less harsh than the mouthwash ( I think mine is Listerine...getting thrown away tonight!) Also check to make sure you don't have any lumps or bumps under your throat as this could actually be a bigger problem just raising up the circumvallate papillae.

I have the same. The bumps and slightly coated tongue. This started straight after antibiotics. Have you had any information on what it is? Thanks for your answer.
