Like so many of you I am trying to come off of my percocet, oxycodone, Lortab, morphine and fenatanyl...I think I am losing my mind. I do have some klonopan (sp) and that is helping a little. I cannot stop throwing up and I am exhausted and would literally mug someone for my pain meds. The problem is my husband has cancer and has two major treatments one on the 13th and the other on the 3rd of Sept. I must be there for these...any suggestions? How about vitamins, fruit juice, ect. something has to help...I absolutely cannot go to the hospital until after the 3rd of Sept. I am really wanting to get on methadone as I just cannot deal with all of this right now. I have had 3 major back surgeries in the last 4 years...not like I went out thinking, "Gee, think I will get a buzz today," never the less...the result is the same...won't someone answer me and at least give me some support so I know my life is vauable? That is a lot of medication to get off of. Just be glad you aren't doing something like street heroin.

I got on methadone 5 years ago when my first son was born. I didn't have the money, the strength, or the belief in myself that I could remain away from heroin. Today is day 10 I've been off it cold turkey, 41mg. I didn't sleep a couple nights, but many nights I did get sleep. However, it took me 5 years of the same routine. Your body gets used to it. It helped me kick my addiction but made me gain at least 80 pounds over that time and I lost several teeth and had multiple root canals.

If you decide against methadone, I have always found Cold turkey is the best way to go. If you have the strength within yourself, it won't be that bad. The opiates you are on are short lasting. It could be over in as little as 5-7 days. My symptoms will last much longer (methadone withdrawal is documented to last 3-6 weeks.)

In the end it is a personal decision but with what you have told me I would highly recommend not going on methadone in your situation. Get yourself some Valium or clonzepam, some clonidine and some B6/Potassium supplements for the severe RLS you may end up with. Your internist or any walk in doctor should be able to easily perscribe these for you. Good luck to you, you are not alone.
