Hello there! I heard about this new technique for reducing discogenic pain called Intra Discal Electro Thermal Annuloplasty ( IDET ) and I was wondering if I could have it done to treat my annular tear! Is there anybody who can help me with this? Could there be any complications during or after the procedure?

Hello! Yes, IDET is used for those people with discogenic low back pain and mild sciatica who don’t manage to improve their pain with six months of conservative therapy, for chronic annular tears and small disc herniations causing persistent sciatica. Yes, there could be some complications like failure to treat the pain, disk infection, bleeding with those people with coagulation problems and nerve injury can be done while inserting a needle into a disc. You should talk more about this with your doctor and see with him if this is a right procedure for you.
