I found out some important information to all diabetic drivers. Since I am a diabetic who drives so I thought I would share some information to everyone else because people may not be aware of it. As everyone knows, every person who applies for a driver's license needs to take a vision exam. If you don't pass the vision test, you may not get your license. Keep in mind that each state has their set rules and regulations but there are some general standards that they all share. It would behoove you to check your state's department of transportation website to ensure you are up to date on all the rules and regulations. When you go to take your licensing exam or renewal, you may have to answer some medical questions that include if you are diabetic. Then you may be asked if you have a condition that may cause you to go unconscious. You will need to be careful how you answer these questions, however, you cannot blatantly lie on it. There is the possibility that you will need to undergo a medical evaluation, depending on the circumstances. If you have had a severe episode of hypoglycemia, you may have your license revoke for a designated amount of time. Just to make you aware, be sure to always be on your toes when it comes to watching your blood sugar if you are prone to low blood sugar. If not, you may have your license taken away or at worst, get in an accident and hurt someone.

This is very good information to take to heart. Just as someone intoxicated with alcohol should not be behind the wheel of a car, someone with a low blood sugar would be just as dangerous. Unfortunately, hypoglycemia can happen upon any diabetic unsuspectingly so these patients need to be aware of having snacks on hand and tell their friends and loved ones how to respond if they are acting like they are having an episode.
