A laminectomy for one problem and then a spinal fusion for a different problem. I surely do not think that spinal surgeons know that is going on.
You probably have piriformis syndrome...it is an autoimmune neuropathy and it usually affects the nerves deep in the buttock and in the shoulders where a great amount of motion is located.
Answer me this question...If you are a guy...if your penis and scrotum on the most painful side semi-numb....if you are a gal, is the greater labia on the symptomatic side somewhat less sensitive than the other? You see, the nerve to the genitalia goes through a tight opening along with the sciatic and posterior femoral cutaneous nerves deep in the buttock and they cause the pain...even to radiate into the lower back and sacrum.

Oh gee!! I had fusion at 3-5, bone taken from my hip. The graft went in thru the butt muscle instead of the outside of my hip. I have chronic, continuous, and increasing pain in my hips, legs, nerves etc. this fusion was in 2004!!! I am on more pain meds than originally! I'm now 48 years old. Female that is 5'51/2" and weighs 125. Doctors swore I was going to be perfect when they finished. I can't work for each day I don't know if the pain will be manageable. The further down the road I get, the worse the pain throughout my body.
