I am suffering with a humming noise in my right ear, and plays me up at night, it's not constant but intermittent, stops for a few seconds then starts again, it's driving me crazy, tried ear plugs, radio on low and still hear it. When I place my hand under my ear on the pillow the noise stops, so this makes me think it is some kind of pressure. I had an hearing test some years ago and it was perfect, I feel my ears are my weak spot and very sensitive to noise, cant stand a a clock in the room. ALso when I squint my eyes I hear like a wind noise in my ears, and when I massage the left side at the end of my eyes I can hear a wind noise. I heard smokers are prone to ear trouble, and I smoke. I am going back to see gp for ent referral, they already referred me to Neurolgy for the pain as I have had this for years and not got to why I suffer with this. The doctor thinks it could be relating to nerves in my face. I am waiting for the results for this. I cope with the ear pain, but not the noise is something else that is keeping me awake all night, stressing me out as I have to go to work.

I have no special health issues. I have a high-frequency hiss tinnitus in my left ear (go, me!). I can ignore that, but the hum bugs me because it keeps starting and stopping. It stops for a second or so when there's almost eny other external noise: a clap, a car horn, anything.
