I think this could be the same for me. I'm noticing it in lip balms that irritate my throat.

Same here! The funny thing is it stops very shortly after I take the lipstick off. It has to be some kind of sensitivity to the ingredients. Good thing I found this thread while looking for an answer. Google continues to try and tell me it's strep when it happens with new lipsticks and stops when i take it off.

Beeswax, or cera alba, does that to me. It's from a birch pollen allergy.  I think it's from beauty companies trying to use more "natural" ingredients and causing sensitivities in people.

I get a sore throat from lipsticks and lip balms that contain SHEA BUTTER. I only notice when my long time fave lipstick had a formula change to include Shea butter for "added moisture" now I know to avoid any with it in.

I’ve noticed an irritation and need to cough with hyaluronic acid and more “natural\clean” brands and formulas. Good old Carmen doesn’t irritate at all.

Omg I think that might be it!! I've just bought a new lip balm for the first time in years (after using a good, unscented hand creme that works on all dry skin, including lips for me – because I look and feel like an id**t putting it on my finger and then rubbing it onto my lips until they are no longer white from the creme). This new lip balm is from Lavera, so NATRUE-certified, but it stil irritates my throat. I just checked and the first ingredient listed IIISSSSS: Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil*.

Thank you for posting this! I never knew what caused this issue because it doesn’t happen with every glow or lipstick. I just had a reaction to a new one and googled why and found this and yep, castor oil is in it!

I also have this happen with most lipsticks! I have to smell them before I buy them. One good smell and I can tell if it will irritate throat. Does anyone recommend a brand that doesn’t hurt?

I get this too, but only with "natural" lip balms. Straight Vaseline doesn't do this. Also, Portland Bee Balm doesn't do this.
