I will start this off by saying that I LOVE makeup but I'm also a busy person so days where I just have time for my basic foundation, eyebrow pencil and blush happen repeatedly. I love lipsticks, either with a full face of makeup or in addition to the above daily routine, and I buy them often. They all dry out!
More precisely, the liquid ones seem to last the distance but the regular stick ones in paste form (?) get really dry and don't apply as nicely after a short while. I think this is an unusual problem or at least I've never heard anyone else complain about this before. What do you think is going on here?

One thing that's for sure is that matte lipsticks, which are drier anyway, will dry out more quickly. Perhaps go for gloss formulas instead? And don't keep them in a really dry place. Maybe look into a humidifier?

One thing you could possibly try though is to remelt them yourself, in a little saucepan, and if necessary add a little bit of coconut oil or bees wax, and then either try to pour them back into their original containers or perhaps even better, into jars you can seal airtight. You would then have to apply them with a lipstick brush, but that works better in any case.

I have had this happen with liquid lipsticks and in that case I assume that either the quality wasn't that good or that I just forgot to screw the lid on right and that is why they dried out. I have never, ever had a "normal" stick of lipstick dry out on me to the point that it was unusable and I had to throw it away though.
Do you close the lids? Do you keep them somewhere really warm and dry? Are you buying really, really cheap lipsticks or ordering them from China? If the answer isn't among those options, then literally I have no idea.

I completely understand you! My lipstick dries out too and I hate it! I have been wondering why for a long time. I really want my lipstick to stay good. I want it to look nice. Once I bought a really expensive lipstick, and it dried out. I still don't know why it happens, but I do know some hacks to save it from drying out. First, keep them in an air tight container. The only other thing I know that could help is melting your lipstick, and remolding it. I think this does take a lot of time. You also need some mold. I have never tried melting, but my friends have. They say it works great, but I don't know.

That sounds strange to me too. Count me among those who have never had the problem of drying out lipsticks.
What I AM familiar with is lipsticks that dry out on my lips and/or dry my actual lips themselves out. My answer to this problem is to use a lip stain rather than a lipstick, and to apply lip gloss as a "top coat" over that. This prevents my lips from drying out and leaves a nice finish as well, so it makes me happy.
For the lipsticks that dry out in their packages, I think you have already received some good advice. I'm wondering if that will stop the problem.

Hmmm... count me amongst those people who've never had a lipstick dry out on me. I keep them in a plastic cosmetic bag with a zipper, to make sure the lids stay on and they're all in one place. This is more to avoid a mess than to prevent the lipsticks from drying out, but who knows? Perhaps it makes a difference? It's something you could try, anyway. I have like six lipsticks in total though, I prefer to use them regularly and then get new ones rather than having a large lipstick collection and not using them up for years. I am sure that helps too.
