Can you help me with my problem? Our kid is 5 years old and she is feeling some pain in the arm. We don’t know what is exactly going on, but she is holding onto her left elbow. We cannot see any deformities there but she won’t allow us to inspect it more carefully or even touch it. A friend of ours told us that this is probably subluxation and that we should go to the doctor immediately. Is that condition followed with tearing of the ligaments?

It usually isn’t. Subluxation occurs in kids when they have been pulled upwards by the arm (hand or wrist). In that moment, radial bone might slip away from the elbow joint and a nearby ligament might enter that empty spot. That is why the kid is crying and protecting the hurt arm. You really should go to the doctor and let him/her help your child.
