No. It's definitely not OK or appropriate. You as a patient have the final say as to who is present during any exam, intimate or not. You can refuse. The doctor does not have any legal or medical right to insist to a chaperone. If she says it's office policy, then stop the exam and find a male doctor.

I had vasectomy last year. I was taken to the procedure room. Where I was introduced to the female anesthesia tech and a female nurse. Then I male assistant Dr came in and said he was going to shave my groin for the surgery. I looked over at the ladies and expected them to leave. Did they leave? Nope they both just stood there no more than 6 feet away from me on the table. The dr doesn't tell them to leave. He lifts my gown exposing my flaccid penis to them and starts to shave me. The ladies just stand there pretending to talk but I can see them looking at my penis the entire time he shaves me. And because of him having to touch and move it to shave. And the fact to younger ladies are watching. I got a full erection by the time he was done. He then says while I'm still exposed and erect that the nurse will now clean and prep the area. He leaves and she comes over with the iodine cleanse and puts gloves on and starts rubbing it all over my scrotum, abdomen and even my penis. While doing certain spots she has to hold and move my erect penis back and forth to clean me everywhere. And the whole time the anesthesia girl is standing there watching. I was embarrassed enough that they saw me get shaved and get erect. But then to have the one watch while the nurse cleans me down there. And having her touch and hold my erection was the most embarrassing. I don't feel this was right at all. What do you all think?

I see a female PCP and a female urologist. I am more comfortable with a female doctor than a male doctor. Sometimes its just pull my pants and underware down, sometimes it is a head to toe exam where they need me to take everything off. They always have a female chaperone, another nurse, receptionist, scribe, etc. They always ask me if I am ok with them being in the exam room. I understand having a witness is to protect them from a frivolous lawsuit and don't object. They are medical professionals that see male patients all the time. Its nothing to be embarrassed about, if it was I would go to a male doctor.

Well first off I think this is BS! Odd you went to a female doctor! Oh! Then you were the last patient of the day and drat! I'm a 55 year old male who chose a female Dr. on purpose. I just feel more comfortable with them I guess after having a bad experience with a male Dr. in the past. So, I started seeing my female Dr. for the first time and I knew I needed to do everything from blood work to a physical to be sure I'm healthy. I thought I was going to get the finger up the rear but found our they check that through the blood work now, which was good news to me. Anyway, after some breaking the ice time with the new Dr. it came time for the exam. She asked me to get undressed except for my underwear and she would be back in a couple minutes. I do as she asked and then I hear a knock on the door and the Dr. comes in with the same young nurse who took my vitals and asked me all kinds of health questions just a few minutes earlier. I'm thinking she is going to drop off some equipment for the Dr. and then leave but the door shuts behind the nurse. The nurse stands against the wall but to the right of the doctor where I can totally see all of her and she can see all of me. I was never asked if it was okay to have her in the same room but I just went with the flow at this point but didn't really like it. I'm then asked to lower my underwear. I lower my underwear and it's cold in the room and at this point I'm pretty much nervous as I got caught off guard. I felt like I had shrinkage going on at this point from the cold room and being nervous but I tried to relax and just get over it. The exam gets started and it feels like it was taking forever. I finally had the nerve to look up JUST to see if the nurse was looking and her eyes was totally glued on my penis. At this time I felt a uncontrollable, mind of it's own, erection coming on and I tried like hell to think of anything else to stop it and I sort of did but still got 75% erect. I'm told to lay on the exam table and just drop my pants and get under the paper sheet. I do as asked and I wait for them to come in. She is indeed young, 19 or so, and the female Dr. moves the paper to get to my penis and had spray can to freeze off the wart. The young intern is suppose to watch I know and she did up close as she was actually leaning over my stomach. At this point I simply didn't care and just wanted this tiny wart gone. They didn't rush the process and took the time to look all around for other possible hidden warts. Lifting and pushing my scrotum and penis around.
