Is oxycodone stronger than hydrocodone?

I actually take both Oxycontin and Oxynorm.  Oxycontin is the slow-release form; Oxynorm is the immediate-release form; and BOTH are trade names for oxycodone hydrochloride.

I can appreciate all of the posts made under this topic, but it all comes down to the individual.

What works for one person might not work at all for the other. There have been many numbers thrown around, but again it all comes back to what type of pain you have, where is it located and is it temporary or permanent. Most doctors are extremely cautious about writing scripts for these powerful narcotics and the last thing they want is to accidentally kill someone. You have to be as honest as possible and remember your life hangs in the balance if mixed with another drug being used for recreational purposes.

 Unless you are truly in need of one of these medications, then stay away from them completely! My pain management doctors tried me on every medication in the book and Oxycontin kept me almost pain free for just over 2 years. Because of it's potentcy, everybody had to go out and start abusing it. Now, they have already had to reformulate Oxycontin (the only medication I ever had any success with), and it doesn't work for me at all. I get extreme headaches and a constant low grade fever. I was blown up by a roadside bomb in Iraq in 2006 and I have about 1.5 pounds of titanium rods and screws holding my lumbar spine together. Anyone using these forums to find out what they need to take to get a better high should leave right now! You have already cost me the only pain relief medication that actually worked!

Oxycodone is the active drug in Oxycontin. It is also the same thing in percocet,percodan,roxis, etc. The only difference being that oxyCONTIN has a time release mixed in, and its not the coating, its mixed throughout the pill with other fillers. The color on the pill that scrpes off or wipes off is for id'ing the pill. Oxycodone itself is the same in any of these pills, however when used in oxycontin, its got the time release mixed in...thus contin=continous. Percocet roxi, etxc are for breakthrough pain and release all the drug at once. Thats the differences, one is for immediate or breakthrough pain, and oxcontin is for all day time release pain relief. They are usually used in conjunction with each other. Extended release takin a few times a day, and immediate release for breakthrough pain. I am a long time pain sufferer turned addict. My advice is dont even start using opiates even if your Dr prescribes them. You will most likely get addicted. Where do you think most pill addicts come from, we were all prescribed them at one point. Just cause a doc prescribes them doesnt mean you need to take them. Opiates a a beautiful drug, but a wicked beast at the same time. So be careful, ad for god sakes get your facts straight. Oxcodone HCL is oxycodone. 

its very simple and when taken as a whole all the posts are correct its a very simply difference. Generic Hyrdocodone APAP (tylenol) aka (Vicodin, Lortab) comes in various strengths ie. 7.5/750 7.5 650 5/500 5/325 and norco is just hydrocodone. it also comes in liquid and sublingual forms. Vicoprofen is the same as above only with ibfrofin, as well as another containing aspirin. 

Oh my! Did someone seriously say that methadone is better for you??? Horrible idea. Methodone is highly dependant which is why doctors only give u a little at a time and the withdrawls are known to be worse than heroin withdrawl....and because it's legal most people stay on it for years once dependant. Don't ever ask to be on Methadone. Listen to me for I am doing you a huge favor by sharing my information. My doctor actually told me this and I also know from personal experience. Everyone I know already knows this...why don't you person that suggested this??? All it is basically is a legal form of heroin with worse withdrawls. Now.....does this really sound like something you want to do? I think not.

1. YOUR Doctor should be deciding your medication, NOT YOU!!!

2. Vicodin (I perfer LORTABS) HydroCloride HydroCodone comes in many strenghts 7.5/500s and 10/500's.  It is a POTENT Pain killer that very few junkies respect.  When I broke my leg, they gave me Morphine 3mg an hour in my machine pump (If I could have unplugged it, I would have gone to SF City Hall and married her!!!) Dilaudid (God, I loved that sh*t) and a host of others.  When the released me from the hospital, my bone doc put me on LORTABS 10/500s.  FACTOIDS---your body's liver does not know the difference between Heroin and Vicodin---15mgs of Vicodin is the equivalent of 2mgs Morphine because Opiaots are Opiaots!!!  The efficacy of Oxycodin is greater than LORTABS but less than Morphine but LORTABs are more forgiving if you OD, you will live to b***h about it.

3. Whoever recommended Methodone to you is trying to kill you for your insurance money!!!  Google Methodone deaths: Hundreds of Thousands of people have died on that sh*t. Why? The difference between pain free and DEAD is really minute. the half life of Methodon is 15hrs. So you take a pill at night and take a pill in the morning---you dead before breakfast. Hospitals LOVE to pimp Methodone because it is cheaper than true opiates.

4. With Vicodin, its not the dope you have to worry about---its the Tylinol in it that kills (Very Hepatoxic).  Ask for 10s/500, break em in half; double yer dope!!!.

lol u guys kill me just try to get a doc to perscribe u oxy ...not gona happen hydro is week as hell thats why they would rather kill ur liver with hydro mixede with tylenol instede of pure meds that work better like oxy ..but it has much higher potential for abuse the oyx is addictive as hell and it will all ruin ur life hydro or not

You are wrong about oxy being a synthetic and hydrocodone not. Both are partial agonists which means they are both part synthetic. The only two opiates that I knew of that were full agonist when I worked at a pharmacy was methadone and suboxone/subutex. Get your facts straight before you post.

The only reason one needs to be taking PAIN MEDS is that, H-E-L-L-O, you are in pain and have a Professional monitoring your pain management.  Any OPIATE taken into your body (orally, anally, nasally, skin poppin', main lining, patch'ed or as a drink) will make you a JUNKIE sooner or later.  People who take opiates when they are in pain are easier to get clean than Junkies seeking the next high.  Remember that!!!  

is hydra morphine stronger then oxycotni

correct, it is the same chemical, but oxycontin is pure and time released, and oxicodone is less pure and immediately acting and mg to mg not as powerful as oxicontin for those reasons.

I was taking 2 norco's at a time and my Dc. put me on Oxycodone. I cannot tell any difference. None I have always been scared of oxy.

but thought I could take less noro's if I got on oxy. I am confused on what to do.

Yes I am very sure that oxycotin, is more addictive than hydrocodene,if you have pain try trimidol, it is good for pain but not as addictive,

oxycotin, is highly addictive, in just a few weeks, you could become very dependant, and it is hell on earth trying to detox, please do not use oxycotin or hydrocodene, at all ,try or look up this information on these two drugs, and use your better judgement. 

1. THE QUESTION IS "IS OXYCODONE' (PERKIES) STRONGER THAN HYDROCODONE (VICoDIN/LORTAB/NoRCO). The answer is NO, they are about the same (10mg/325mg). I had a car SMACK my leg at 35mph while I was in the CrossWalk, Green light. I usually drop 40mg day (4x10mg) unless its a pain day.

2. Do not confuse OXYCODONE with OXYCOTIN.

3. Oxycotin is formulated stronger but time reased. When junkies remove the time coating---crush it and shoot it, YES IT IS LIKE spiking Miss Emma!!!

4. 15mg of Vicodin/Lortab/Norco is = to 3mg Morphine (your body can't tell the difference.

5. Its realitively easy to kick a Vicodin/Lortab/Norco habit but what do you do about the pain?

6. Morphine/Dilauid withdraw is different---like Nicotine, that sh*t will F*** you up!!!

7. You take pain killers to kill pain. I get hundreds of pills for free and I could take them or leave them. It is a LIE you'll get high. You'll get high for about 2 weeks on vicodin before you simply dont feel the high any more.

8. You want to get high? Stick with Weed. Unlike EVERYTHING ELSE, its impossible to OD on Weed, unlike booze, drugs and nicotine where people have died doing too much of it.


9. It's perfectly OK to take Perkies or Lortabs for pain relief but there are negatives. First, you are forever losing sh*t. Then you act stupid Next, you will vicodin rage like 'roid rage---been there/done that. Finally, don't even think of having sex on Vicodin. I mean you still can get it up but you'll look down at your Jimmy and rage "Damn, I came? I didn't even feel it. Sex on vicodin, like what's the point?!!!

No, there are other highs out there if you are searching for that; pain killers aint one of them!!!

Drugs react differently to everyone. Try what your Dr Perscribes, but if it is not working go talk to him and get something better.
