Hello,

I just started taking Fenofibrate 160 mg tablets 2 weeks ago after my cholesterol levels didn’t went down sufficiently just by eliminating unhealthy fats from my diet alone. Ever since I started taking it I’ve been experiencing nausea which eased down only somewhat when I sip ginger tea during the day.

As if this wasn’t bad enough, for the last two days I can’t get rid of nausea no matter what I try, and now it’s also causing me to vomit even the bland food. Is vomiting one of the side effects that would make my doctor take me off this medication?

Hello nells,

hope you're feeling better by now, but it's not uncommon at at all to experience nausea and possibly vomiting when you first start taking Fenofibrate. It's one of the most common side effects of this medication and for most people it generally goes away on it's own as soon as your body gets used to it.

Your doctor will probably first give you some anti-nausea aid to help through this process, but if the side effects persist, then there is a chance that he or she will switch you to a different cholesterol lowering medication.
