Hello! I suffer from rheumatoid arthritis for some time. I used to take over the counter medicines at first and they were helpful in relieving my pain but they didn’t work for inflammation of my joints. When the symptoms started to occur more often I went to see my doctor. He prescribed Azulfidine-En but it’s been three and a half months before I felt improvement with Azulfidine. Is this normal?

Hello! Yes, it is normal and there is no reason to worry. Unlike anti-inflammatory drugs, Azuldfidine-En does not produce fast response. Usually, the clinical benefit is noted in the fourth week of treatment but sometimes treatment for 12 weeks may be required in some patients till therapeutic benefit is observed. It may also happen that clinical response is not adequate even after 12 weeks of treatment and then the daily dose is usually increased. Of course, the increased dosage needs careful monitoring.
