Omg, I've found if I put lime or lemon juice or orange juice in my beer I don't get the electrocution of my jaw (that's what it feels like). So now I mostly drink Corona with lime or Michelob Ultra with lime. If I have a blue moon or anything else I use fresh squeezed orange. I do have really bad TMJ and i am also allergic to sulfa, which I notice a lot of people on here have also.

I have just started to experience very bad jaw pain after consuming certain wines and premix drinks. My favourite was rebranded and now I can't drink it.
Guess what - most of my family are allergic to sulfur. Only as we age.
I think you are right it's an allergy as I don't drink much and never have.
I can drink Lychee liquor no problem. I can no longer drink certain wines.

I don’t know if I am allergic to sulfites. So far alcohol is the only thing causing my jaw pain, but it starts after a drink or 2. It gets worse as I continue. Eating doesn’t make it less painful.
What I have noticed is after I turned 40 ish, I became allergic to shampoo with sulfates in it. And in my later 40s I have discovered I break out in blisters on my face when I have almonds. No other allergies I’m aware of.

Literally just googled “pain along jaw at bottom of ears when drinking” and found this board. I have TMJ and arthritis in my jaw from injury but this pain wasn’t at the joint and was different. Doesn’t happen every time I drink and I haven’t narrowed it down to specific alcohol but I was just having a few beers with my friends and the pain was severe enough to stop drinking. It’s only been the last few months that it’s been happening. Happens even if I’ve been eating (as today I had endless hibachi before having beer).
Finding the idea of “over sensitive parotid gland” to be extremely plausible. But unfortunately that means there’s nothing that can help besides avoiding which alcohols cause it

Same here. Jaw pain after 1 maybe 1 1/2 glasses of wine, usually red but sometimes will happen with white. Only happens maybe 10% of the time. I also have a sulfa allergy.

Interesting. I am allergic to sulphate drugs and have this issue when I drink alcohol from time to time.

Hello! I know this was a year ago but I came across this thread because I have this pain too when I have certain drinks. I thought it was from clenching my jaw but I am allergic to sulfa. Crazy.

I have the same issue very sharp pain right below the ears along the jawline. Same sensation when drinking alcohol as when eating sour foods. I informed my Dr and he informed me it could be Salivary Duck/Gland stone. The stone blocking the salivary duck causing the pain. I still need to get some xrays to get the correct diagnosis.
