I noticed this a few years ago, only when drinking tequila. So, I laid off the margaritas and switched to cranberry juice & vodka. For the past couple years, it's been fine, but in the past week, the pain has started in my jaws again. I'm also thinking the "medical world" doesn't really have any real clear answer for this phenomena, even though there are clearly several people experiencing this. I'm wondering if there are other similar factors... Does anyone else have tinnitus? (constant ringing in the ears) Does anyone else grind their teeth at night? I have had/done both since...birth... Are there any common traits in folks that experience this? My pain comes on very soon after the second drink. I switch to water, but it doesn't really help much. The only thing I've found that helps is time...About 30 minutes of not drinking alcohol. I'm sipping water during those 30 minutes, but each time the water hits my tongue, it triggers the pain in the corners of my jaw, so is the water helping or not? Tequila is so bad that the mere smell of it will make my jaws tender. Anyone else have other conditions that might be common denominators in this??

That sure makes sense. I did NOT know about the parotid/pancreas relationship. Explains a LOT! Thanks so much for your post.

I get this. Drives me insane. It's not every time I drink, just sometimes, and only after the first drink. I'm going to buy some chewable vitamin C. Thanks for the tip!

I don't think it happens due to lower grains, as I tried Glen livet and morangie.
Jameson didn't give me pain.

Hail Jameson....well jokes apart maybe co-incident, it happens with all kind of alcohol. what's the remedy?

dbrew, if you drink lukewarm water, it will do the trick.
biting teeth in night, is a cause of low calcium/protein in your body. start having protein and calcium rich food.

I've had this issue for years. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2015 and my lymph nodes are involved. I'd googled this issue many times prior to diagnosis and quite often lymphoma had been mentioned so I do wonder if it's related.

This makes so much sense. I'm allergic to sulfa but never connected it to my jaw pain after drinking. It can last a long time and be very painful. I'll have to look at the sulfate levels in my drinks before drinking them.

Yes, I have had this issue for years and I too only have it during the first two drinks of wine or beer. It's very painful! But I too am allergic to sulfa. Never heard about this idea of sulfites. Very interesting!

I have the same problem! I wouldn't necessarily say it's a "pain," more of a tightening. It just feels uncomfortable. The reference to blowing up balloons is the closest to how I feel. I thought maybe it was an allergy, but like many of you have said, it only happens after the first one or two

I looked up this question because once again I had a glass of wine and my jaw was killing me. This has not happened in a bit but it was really bad just 3 minutes ago. I wanted to share what I had learned when I looked this up about a year ago. Eat a chewable vitamin c and it will go away. After reading a bit and sitting here in pain I walked to the bedroom got a chewable vitamin c chewed it and before I got out of the room the pain was gone! I kid you not 10 seconds the severe pain gone. I hope this works for other as well as it does form me.
