...finding these is a bit of a Godsend and I hope I start to feel better soon. I've been on Lexapro for a few years now and this past year I've felt a bit 'off'. I feel dizzy and forgetful often. When drinking small or large amounts I've also experienced the blackouts, the anger episodes and then....the week long 'hangover'. 10+ days now after getting very ill, I am still dizzy and queasy. Never again. I'm weening off and starting another RX that helped me in the past. I also will be much more careful with my drinking habits. Be well everyone!

I am interested in how this went for you. I drink socially and often, but every now and then get blackouts after 4-5 drinks. I think it's the drugs because it is really abnormal. Do you have the same?

I find I can have about 4 or 5 glasses of wine on it. I haven't drunk anymore yet as I've read the horror stories. But I feel fine and dandy, perhaps more tired the next day. Oh and more anxious. Alcohol was my self medication before lexapro so it probably needed sorting out anyway.

Hey! Does anyone know where I could find documentation or medical research to back up that Lexapro plus alcohol can increase BAC?

I have been working as a bartender for 6 years, and have built up quite a tolerance to alcohol. That is, until I started taking Lexapro. I am on 10mg and have been taking it for 3 months, now. The changed effects in my drinking were (after 4-6 standard drinks approximately):
- First 2 weeks: heightened euphoria, very little effect of alcohol (I felt stone cold sober, but clearly was not), loss of fine coordination skills (but this is already a symptom of Lexapro).
- 3-8 weeks: little effect of alcohol followed by a sharp increase in drunkeness, dissassociation from reality (I was saying and doing things that I would never do. Similar to an overactive child - this made for some really awkward social gatherings), intense hangovers, loss of coordination.
- 8-12 weeks: the same sypmtoms as before, blackouts, clouded vision in left eye (I don't have any issues with my eyes/wear glasses).
I would recommend that if you were to drink, stick to 3-4. Make sure you have a strong support group around you who know that you are taking this medication and can identify any behavioral changes as you drink. And, most of all, stay safe ❤

Bro I drink 2 bottles of wine a night and it's the only time in the day I feel normal. Don't get a hangover at all.

I experienced some terrible stuff the one time I drank while on lexapro (for depression). I was always very tolerant when it came to alcohol before I was put on lexapro- I could take 9 shots and be completely functional. The first (and last) time I drank while on lexapro caused me to feel so lightheaded I had to lay down. Then I kept blacking out and everything was coming and going and felt like a dream. I kept puking all over myself and couldn't control myself at all and my friend put water on my face and cleaned me up but I continued to have a full blown panic attack because I thought I was dying and that I would die because I was puking
Eventually my friends helped me clean up and change and I got to sleep it off
It's really terrifying though

Between blackouts I had to concentrate on not dying..
Please always be careful

I've a beer on lexapro... that's fine.
However I had half a shot of bourbon and had the most vivid.. cinematic nightmare. Yet I don't think I was fully asleep.. smh. Never again. I usually don't drink at all since I'm the meds.

When do you take your medication? I take mine in the evening because it wakes me up if I take it at night.

I too had had recent issues. I am not new to drinking, and realize I have issues but I never would black out like that so easily before. LAst night I remember taking my meds, and had had a fair amount of wine, but then I don't remember leaving (and I am not one to just go off driving after a few drinks) and went to the store, apparently, and got more wine and random objects. I know my bf is mad at me, but I honestly don't remember much after taking the lexapro... it is terrifying, and I think perhaps it best to not drink at ALL when I take this med.
